[Nagios-users] Problems with Nagios 3.0rc1 and NDOMOD 1.4b7

2008-08-27 Thread Diego Saavedra
Hello!
Sorry for my bad English. I have installed Nagios Version 3.0rc1 and NDOMOD
1.4b7. When I restart Nagios occurs as follows:

[08-27-2008 09:05:39] Nagios 3.0rc1 starting... (PID=13053)

The problem is that not write anything on the MYSQL database. I read that it
might be a problem of compatibility of versions but I do not believe that.

Thanks in advance.

Is the webpage still refreshing itself?
Did you enable the proper setting to monitor the status from the
webpages? In Nagios 2 the default setting is off as far as I can remember.

[Nagios-users] Problems with nagios

2008-03-14 Thread Wheeler, JF (Jonathan)
In the past I have reported problems when our master server has failed
with "Out of memory" problems caused by all server memory and swap space
being used up. I have largely (but not completely) solved these by
increasing the number of "Command" and "Check result" buffers. However
I would like some explanations of the following problems (note that I
run 1 master and 5 slave servers - shortly to be come 6 slaves; the
master server runs nagios, nsca and ndo2db daemons):

1. When I arrived this morning, there were 27000+ nsca processes waiting
to run. Counting the number of processes showed that the number was
increasing by at least 10 per second.

2. Recently a restart of the nagios daemon (on the master server) has
hung after 27 seconds and does not reach completion.

3. For some restarts of the nagios daemon (for example, after a
configuration change), the command pipe cannot be created because there
is a normal file in its place - is this real file created by a nsca
process ? Can I stop this happening ?

4. After a reboot of the master server to try to fix problems 1 and 2
above (I have tried restarting nsca and nagios, and killing many of the
nsca processes), the nagios daemon did not update any of its log files
(see the following outputs from command "nagiosstats -c
/etc/nagios/nagios.cfg":

I am having problems with nagiosgraph sporadicly plotting. I am running
nagios 3.0b1 and nagiosgraph on solaris10. Also nagiosgraph is leaving
these files in /tmp...thus filling up my filesystem. If i restart
nagios, things work great for a little while. Then it goes back to
sporadic plotting.Does anyone know whats going on. Could it be a
solaris10 deal or resource problem. Or is this a config issue? If you
need more info, i will be glad to provide screen shots, etc

Have you tried to setup NagiosGrapher to use the udp network
transmission instead of the named pipe? That solved a big performance
issue on my site.

[Nagios-users] problems with nagios 3.0a3

2007-05-04 Thread Aritz . Lazkano
Hi friends! I´m on troubles!

I installed nagios 2.7 in a Suse. I integrated nagiograph, all was
working fine. The externall commands, graphs. works fine.

I decided to upgrade nagios , so i downloaded nagios3.0a3. I installed,
but is not working well. Now my machined is working really slowly, (cpu
always is %100 working). The proccesses "insert.pl ,nagios" take up all
cpu so my nagios doesn´t checks services inmediatly, it takes more than an
hour to check all the services that are running. I know that insert.pl is
used by nagiosgraph. The externall commands doesn´t works inmediatly, it
takes an a hour to check the service...!!!

I know that the new version of nagios is not very stable but the usage of
the cpu by nagios 3 is more than 1000% bigger than the version 2.7.

Has someone try nagios 3?

thank you. -

Yep what that's doing is parsing your var/status.dat file to get the
current services and their statuses.

How big is your Nagios installation? (i.e. how many hosts/services?)

As a followup, it looks like (perhaps among other issues) the
s3_poller.php script is timing out.

I've turned on the displaying of PHP error messages and when I put the
s3_poller.php URL in and wait, I eventually get:

Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in
/usr/local/nlg_101/server/sync-files/s3_functions.inc.php on line 248

Looking at that file, this seems to be looking at one of my nagios "var"
files...

preg_match_all("/(?:\n|\r\n)\w*service
{(?:\n|\r\n)\s*host_name=" . $ServerObject->HostName . "(?:\n|\r\n)/",
stream_get_contents($StatusFileHandle), $ServiceMatches,
PREG_OFFSET_CAPTURE, 0);

Subject: [Nagios-users] problems with Nagios Looking Glass

Hello. I've been trying to use Nagios Looking Glass and have so far
been unable to. I've tried 1.0Pre, 1.0 and now 1.0.1.

When I go to the client URL (http://nagioshost/nlg/client) it sits there
working on it for 30 seconds and gives me back an error page which
includes:

The checksum I received with the feed is invalid compared to my
local check. Network problems may be causing packet loss

The long wait before the error was consistent with behavior in 1.0Pre
and 1.0, but each version has given me different errors (or none at all
I think with 1.0Pre).

I'm running Nagios 2.6 with authentication to the Nagios "share"
directory. I've got both the NLG client and server on the same box
which is the same as the Nagios server itself.

One thing I'm doing differently here (and maybe I can't do this) is that
I put the NLG stuff *outside* of the nagios share directory. I tweaked
my Apache config so that it would find 'nlg' as a separate URL with no
authentication. So the NLG URLs would be something like

http://nagioshost/nlg/client or http://nagios/nlg/server/s3_poller.php

I modified the php include files per the 1.0PRE documentation (that's
still current for 1.0 and 1.0.1, right?) to use these URLs. I'm a
little unclear about authentication here because I wasn't sure that NLG
would need it as it's accessing files directly. That is, since the
entire /nlg URL tree is unauthenticated and I thought NLG would access
Nagios' files directly (i.e. not using the Nagios URLs) no
authentication was necessary.

I can't find any error logs and I'm having some difficulty figuring out
how I might turn debugging on in the code to tell me what I might have
done wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

If you enable the debugging option in the client/s3_config_stub.inc.php
file ($Stub_ClientEnableDebugging) to 1, then visit
"http://nagioshost/nlg/client/?debug=yes";, that will generate your
debugging output, but I'm guessing it will go as far as the error it's

1.0.0#PRE didn't give any error messages apart from "feed download
failed" - that was fixed in 1.0.0.
1.0.1 literally only changed one line of code, so it's strange if it's
giving you a different error to 1.0.0. :S

As a private e-mail, can you send me your config files and the debug
output? (Obviously strip any usernames/passwords out of your config
before-hand!)

Just glancing over your e-mail, is this just an oversight, or is this
actually in your config? - You say you're using the same server as both
client and server, and your client address starts http://nagioshost, but
your server address starts http://nagios - this would cause the delay
you're seeing, but I think I'm being a bit hopeful that this is all it is ;)

As per your question about authentication, the sync'd files are
requested from the normal file-system (when configured), but the poller
still uses a HTTP request - this is something I'm hoping to change in 1.0.2.

FYI you don't have to put NLG in the share directory of Nagios - I've
done exactly the same trick as you did with my server feed, and my
client UI is sitting on a completely different server to Nagios.

Thanks

Andy.

[Nagios-users] problems with Nagios Looking Glass

2007-01-23 Thread Frost, Mark {PBG}

I can't find any error logs and I'm having some difficulty figuring out
how I might turn debugging on in the code to tell me what I might have
done wrong.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Mark

Well, now it lists out the library and the symbolic links.

Further more - the statusmap.cgi now gives me a picture. Somethings
still broken - but it must be one of the dependent libs - because I'm
suffering broken images in some places. But I think I can track down
the rest now. May well need to recompile everything once more now
you've given me the pointer to fix the ld.so.conf.

Many thanks.

Is /usr/local/lib in your /etc/ld.so.conf ?

What does "ldconfig -v | grep libpng" give you?

Infact, I've just done exactly that. I've put all the Nagios
configuration in the virtual server stanza and removed anything from the
global area. Low and behold - I now have my pages back - but they're
still not showing the colourations I should be getting.

Clicking on the statusmap.cgi page - I get an internal server error -
whereupon it can't find libpng.so.0 - yet the file exists in
/usr/local/lib.

So now its an Apache problem I think. Time to go and Google again.

Actually, when I ran with that specific command line - of course it just
showed localhost://nagios/cgi-bin and localhost://nagios - I install the
result of that one - it didn't work.

Thats why I tried specifying the specific virtual host under which we
want to run it - and thats not working either.

Is there anyway I can get rid of the localhost from the output of
./configure?

Well, its still not working. I've tried a few invocations. At the end
of the ./configure run I get something that looks like :-

 Web Interface Options:

 HTML URL: http://localhost//admin.eninet.com/nagios/
  CGI URL:
http://localhost//admin.eninet.com/nagios/cgi-bin/
 Traceroute (used by WAP): /usr/sbin/traceroute

Ideally - I'd like to get rid of that localhost. Is there anyway I can
do that?

The reason for this is that we run several web sites on this server -
and admin.eninet.com is what we enter into the browser.

[Nagios-users] Problems with Nagios

2006-08-14 Thread Neil Briscoe
I'm having a problem with Nagios which is this. At the moment, I have a
version of Nagios that monitors a few systems, but the screens all
display incorrectly. The reason for this was that I originally compiled
without gd and all its friends.

I have now rectified the lack of the libraries and have re-compiled
Nagios again. It compiles fine and I stop the service, run make install
and re-start the service. The service starts fine - but going to the
web page now gets a NOT FOUND for all pages.

Fortunately, I took a backup of /usr/local/nagios - so I'm at least able
to put back the working but broken system.

Here is my configuration command line :-

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/nagios --with-cgiurl=/var/www
/eninet/admin.eninet.com/nagios/cgi-bin
--with-htmurl=/var/www/eninet/admin/enin
et.com/nagios --with-nagios-user=nagios --with-nagios-group=nagios
--with-command-group=www-data --with-gd-inc=/usr/local/include
--with-gd-lib=/usr/local/lib

If anyone could advise me what I'm doing wrong I'd appreciate it.

You have a host named 'myorgDC01.mycompany.com' specified as a member of
a hostgroup (on line 21 of hostgroups.cfg) that doesn't have a
corresponding host{} definition (and likely missing a service{}
definition as well). Add them or remove the host from the hostgroup
definition.

[Nagios-users] Problems with nagios config

2006-05-10 Thread Andrew Meyer
I seem to be getting this error everytime I try to test the config:

Reading configuration data...

Error: Could not find any host matching 'myorgDC01.mycompany.com'
Error: Could not expand member hosts specified in hostgroup (config file
'/usr/local/nagios/etc/hostgroups.cfg', starting on line 21)

***> One or more problems was encountered while processing the config
files...

Check your configuration file(s) to ensure that they contain valid
directives and data defintions. If you are upgrading from a
previous
version of Nagios, you should be aware that some
variables/definitions
may have been removed or modified in this version. Make sure to
read
the HTML documentation regarding the config files, as well as the
'Whats New' section to find out what has changed.
