maybe polar coordinates are better situated for distance vector protocols?

Easy: horizontal is same direction as 19" mounting brackets ;)


I've yet to find a square switch/router that can be rack mounted either
horizontally or vertically ;)

like the 19" spacing between the rails mounted on my wall?
