[NANOG-announce] NANOG 72 Meeting Dates

2017-11-16 Thread Betty Burke <be...@nanog.org>
The NANOG organization, and I personally, apologize for publishing the
incorrect dates for NANOG 72 on our website and in the closing slides of
NANOG 69 and NANOG 70.

NANOG 72 was originally slated to start the first week of February, 2018.
This changed in December 2016 for reasons explained below. Unfortunately,
we did not change the NANOG website and closing slides. The website was
updated in October 2017 and the closing slides at NANOG 71 showed the
correct dates. For this, I apologize to our attendees and members. If you
would like to discuss this in more detail, please email us at
operati...@nanog.org.

Publication of the February meeting dates were delayed due to the
difficulty in finding a venue in a preferred location large enough to host
NANOG. The only acceptable venue was available on February 19-21, 2018. We
updated several public meeting calendars, but failed to update the NANOG
website and closing slides.

Once again, please accept my sincere apology for the confusion and
difficulty created by this error.

I hope to see all of you in Atlanta on February 19th.

Respectfully,
Betty

[NANOG-announce] 2015 Postel Scholarship Announcement

2015-07-07 Thread Betty Burke be...@nanog.org
Colleagues,

On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), I would like to take this
opportunity to draw your attention to the 2015 Postel Network Operator's
Scholarship.

The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing
countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the
following roles:

   -

   Engineers (Network Builders)
   -

   Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel
   -

   Educators and Trainers

This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship.

Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email or online
form. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient selected by a
committee comprising representatives from the NANOG Board of Directors and
the ARIN Board of Trustees. The selection committee will whimsically
select the annual recipient exclusively in response to the question: What
Would Jon Do? if he were asked to select a recipient.

The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from
the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting October 5-9, 2015, in Montreal, Quebec
Canada, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and
accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings'
events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to
final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at
least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date.

Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The
deadline for application is July 31, and the awardees will be informed by
August 10, 2015.

Please read full information about the scholarship at:

http://www.nanog.org/scholarships/postel.php

To apply, please complete the web-based application form that is linked
from that page. Optionally, you may submit your application in PLAIN ASCII
in the BODY of the message, not as an attachment nor as a Word document,
PDF, or any other form, to postel...@nanog.org.

Please be sure to include the following:

   -

   Full name and contact info
   -

Your brief biography, including current and recent jobs held

   -

A description of why you need and deserve this Scholarship to attend the
   NANOG and ARIN meetings

   -

A description of how you plan to leverage your attendance at the
   meetings in your work

   -

A brief abstract of a presentation you would give at the NANOG and/or
ARIN meetings, if selected as a Scholarship winner

Kind regards,

Betty Burke on behalf of the Postel Scholarship Selection Committee

[NANOG-announce] 2014 Postel Scholarship Announcment

2014-06-20 Thread Betty Burke be...@nanog.org
Colleagues:

On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), I would like to take this
opportunity to draw your attention to the 2014 Postel Network Operator's
Scholarship.

The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing
countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the
following roles:

Engineers (Network Builders)
Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel
Educators and Trainers

This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship.

Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email or the
online form. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient
selected by a committee comprising representatives from the NANOG Board of
Directors and the ARIN Board of Trustees. The selection committee will
whimsically select the annual recipient exclusively in response to the
question: What Would Jon Do? if he were asked to select a recipient.

The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from
the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting October 6-8, 2014, in Baltimore, Maryland
USA, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and
accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings'
events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to
final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at
least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date.

Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The
deadline for application is July 4, 2014, and the awardees will be informed
by July 21, 2014.

[NANOG-announce] 2013 Postel Scholarship Announcement

2013-05-14 Thread Betty Burke be...@nanog.org
On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), we would like to take this
opportunity to draw your attention to the 2013 Postel
http://nanog.org/resources/scholarships/postelNetwork
Operator's Scholarship http://nanog.org/resources/scholarships/postel.

The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing
countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the
following roles:

   - Engineers (Network Builders)
   - Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel
   - Educators and Trainers

This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship.

Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email. The
Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient selected by a committee
comprising representatives from the NANOG Board of Directors and the ARIN
Board of Trustees. The selection committee will whimsically select the
annual recipient exclusively in response to the question: What Would
Jonhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jon_PostelDo? if he were asked to
select a recipient.

The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from
the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting October 7-11, 2013 in Phoenix, Arizona,
USA, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and
accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings'
events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to
final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at
least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date.

Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The
deadline for application is June 7, 2013 and the awardees will be informed
by July 19, 2013.

Please read full information about the scholarship at:

http://nanog.org/resources/scholarships/postel

To apply, please submit your application in PLAIN ASCII in the BODY of the
message, not as an attachment nor as a Word document, PDF, or any other
form, to postel...@nanog.org.

Please be sure to include the following:

   - Full name and contact info
   - Your brief biography, including current and recent jobs held
   - A description of why you need and deserve this Scholarship to attend
   the NANOG and ARIN meetings
   - A description of how you plan to leverage your attendance at the
   meetings in your work
   - A brief abstract of a presentation you would give at the NANOG and/or
ARIN meetings, if selected as a Scholarship winner

Kind regards,

Steve Gibbard and John Curran, on behalf of the Postel Scholarship
Selection Committee

[NANOG-announce] Best Current Operational Practices Working Group

CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

The NANOG Best Current Operational Practices Working Group is seeking
volunteers to take part in the creation of official best practices
documents. We are also looking for a co-Chairman to assist NANOG WG,
Chair Aaron Hughes. The goal of the BCOP-WG is to produce professional
Best Practices documents that can be used globally by the network

operator forums, ARIN, and ISOC. The NANOG organization will support
the BCOP-WG through professional resources, web sites, meeting space,
and financial support.

A mailing list is being set up and an organizational meeting will
occur at NANOG 57 in Orlando in February 2013. Some areas for BCOP
development include:

- Address Assignment
- Routing Protocol implementation
- Routing Policy
- Network Security Policy
- Network Deployment
- DNS Operations
- and more!

Please volunteer if you are able to devote some time to the effort and
have a willingness to write and edit BCOP documents. The plan is to
publish numerous official BCOP documents each year with significant
professional exposure for authors and editors. This is a great way to
get involved in the NANOG organization, to develop yourself
professionally, and to serve the larger Internet community.

2012-04-20 Thread Betty Burke be...@nanog.org
Colleagues:

On behalf of the North American Network Operators' Group (NANOG) and the
American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), we would like to take this
opportunity to draw your attention to the 2012 Postel Network Operator's
Scholarship.

The Postel Network Operator's Scholarship targets personnel from developing
countries who are actively involved in Internet development, in any of the
following roles:

•Engineers (Network Builders)
•Operational and Infrastructure Support Personnel
•Educators and Trainers

This is not a postgraduate fellowship or academic scholarship.

Individuals may nominate themselves for the Scholarship via email or online
form. The Scholarship will be awarded annually to a recipient selected by a
committee comprising representatives from the NANOG Board of Directors and
the ARIN Board of Trustees. The selection committee will whimsically
select the annual recipient exclusively in response to the question: What
Would Jon Do? if he were asked to select a recipient.

The successful applicant will be provided with transportation to and from
the NANOG and ARIN joint meeting October 21-26, 2012, in Dallas, Texas,
USA, and a reasonable (local host standard) allowance for food and
accommodation. In addition, all fees for participation in both meetings'
events will be waived. The final grant size is determined according to
final costs and available funding. The chosen recipient will be advised at
least 2 months prior to the fall meeting date.

Applications from qualified individuals are now being accepted. The
deadline for application is June 1, 2012, and the awardees will be informed
by July 16, 2012.

Please read full information about the scholarship at:
http://www.nanog.org/scholarships/postel.php

Please pass along this information and encourage those interested to apply
by completing the web-based application form that is linked from the
information page. Optionally, submissions are accepted via email PLAIN
ASCII in the BODY of the message, not as an attachment nor as a Word
document, PDF, or any other form, to postel...@nanog.org.
Please be sure to include the following:

• Full name and contact info
• Your brief biography, including current and recent jobs held
• A description of why you need and deserve this Scholarship to attend the
NANOG and ARIN meetings

• A description of how you plan to leverage your attendance at the meetings
in your work

• A brief abstract of a presentation you would give at the NANOG and/or
ARIN meetings, if selected as a Scholarship
winner

Kind regards,
Steve Gibbard and Paul Vixie, on behalf of the Postel Scholarship
Selection Committee

[NANOG-announce] NANOG 54 Hotel Update

2011-12-08 Thread Betty Burke be...@nanog.org
Dear NANOG Community,

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I am happy to share some wonderful
news regarding hotel accommodations for our NANOG 54 meeting in San Diego.
The hotel has been undergoing renovations and recently completed remodeling
of all its guest rooms and meeting space. The last phase of the hotel
remodel will include the main lobby, which they plan to complete before our
meeting.

The Board has been working closely with the hotel to ensure the remodel
will have no effect on NANOG 54, scheduled for February 5 - 8, 2012. As a
result of our conversations, the hotel has agreed to reduce the individual
guest room rate from $199 +tax/ night to $169 + tax/night. For
reservations already made, the hotel will make an adjustment to your daily
rate, reflecting the new NANOG 54 rate.

In addition, if you make your reservation by January 4th, 2012, you will be
entered into a drawing to win 10,000 Starwood Preferred Guest points!

For your reference, below please find a copy of the original letter from
the hotel.

We look forward to seeing you all in San Diego!

Sincerely,

Betty Burke,
Executive Director

Greetings from San Diego!

We are looking forward to welcoming you to America’s Finest City for the
NANOG Annual Meeting in February 2012.

Over the last year, The Westin Gaslamp Quarter has completed a refresh of
our guest rooms, meeting space and WestinWORKOUT®, and we are in the final
phase of our lobby renovation. To celebrate and to help manage your travel
expense, we are happy to offer a discounted conference rate of $169 plus
tax (originally $199!) For any reservations that have already been made,
we will reduce your confirmed rate for you.

Early Bird Special: If you make your reservation by January 4, 2012, you
will be entered into a drawing to win 10,000 Starwood Preferred Guest
points!

Be well,

Keri Robinson

As I indicated, I was planning to update the members@nanog,org list, and

  Thanks,
This has a lot of us wondering the same as Owen.
This is also not typical of how NANOG does things. Hopefully as the
 day
progresses we will get some insight.
