There are no words... Jens Hybrid cars, here in the US, are officially listed as partial zero emission. My mother's non-hybrid Toyota Camry is also a PZEV. I'm told that this means that some of the time while the vehicle is running, the engine's fuel supply is cut off completely. For non-hybrid vehicles, this could only be while coasting at speed with the throttle closed. I guess the automatic transmission must be specially designed to keep the engine turning over with the torque input from the wheels. For non-hybrid vehicles, this could only be while coasting at speed with the throttle closed. I guess the automatic transmission must be specially designed to keep the engine turning over with the torque input from the wheels. Turning off the injectors in the upper gears of an auto transmission car while the throttle is closed is a common practice for electronic fuel injected engines. I can tell it is occurring in my car when the MPG computer displays --- instead of some ridiculous number up to 199 MPG when coming off the freeway. Yes, the torque converter linkage is such that at speed the wheel spin will drag the engine crankshaft along with it and the non-fueled air pumping action of the engine is acting like a brake. Shift into neutral actually gets you worse MPG, since you're then using gas to idle the engine where none would be otherwise needed to keep the crank spinning. Lower gears then get gas added to bring back the engine idle as the jerking action of restarting the engine (akin to popping the clutch on a manual transmission car) would be more pronounced and make for an unpleasant ride. Of course none of this is orange glow related unless it happens to be the car color, or the driver color, or both... http://www.flickr.com/photos/mermaniac/33124358/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups neonixie-l group.
