Re: [neonixie-l] Unusual ZM1040 Tube

2016-04-28 Thread Paul Parry
Thanks for your help guys, a ZZ1040 it is then!

I was having a hunt for some Nixies and came across Billington Export
https://web211.secure-secure.co.uk/tube-and-valve-electronics.co.uk/wholesale/basket.asp
 they
have quite a few Nixies listed (although the Zm1080 are now gone!) I also
got some odd Dekatrons that divide by 12 rather than 10, which I have never
seen before either! Shame that those ZM1040's were not Nixies as the
wholesale price was £18 each.. which is pretty good for NOS..

Cheers,
Paul

[neonixie-l] Re: The Russians are correct! Early A-201 Polyatron prototype is shining blue!

2016-04-28 Thread Dekatron42
Well, I couldn't keep myself away from the Polyatron so I made a quick
tweak of the pulse voltages as well as the screen/grid voltage, and voila
it started to run somewhat better - now I have to go and take care of what
I really should have done, household chores.

Argon ? If so, I wonder if the decision was based it's abundance vs. Neon.

Yes, probably, Kaganov - Каганов И.Л. Ионные приборы (Ionic Devices), says
that early Polyatrons used 90% Argon and 10% Hydrogen.
