[neonixie-l] Have a great holiday!

2017-12-19 Thread neonixie-l
Let's hear it for a great Holiday Season (that is, if you are taking a
break!).

Here's hoping that you either get to work on some neon projects or have
time time to come up with great ideas for next year! Oh, and get to spend
some time with friends & family!

On a personal note I'd like to thank all the great contributors, the
givers, that we are so lucky to have on the forum - you are all just great!

There is a huge wealth of high quality experience here - designers,
artists, electronic & software engineers, scientists and folk who are just
happy in themselves and love that gentle orange glow.

We all have something to contribute - don't just lurk on the forum and
please don;t be shy - we all want to hear what you're up to! It doesn't
matter one jot if it's on a breadboard, not pretty or unfinished, a
lash-up, just an idea forming in your head - this is a uniquely positive
forum - there is no such thing as a stupid question - we were all beginners
once - we are very lucky in the wonderful & inventive membership we have.
Let's celebrate that!

Have a great time!!

All the very best,

The NEONIXIE-L Forum Team.

I may have to pick up a couple of these to give them a try. Thanks for
posting this.

[neonixie-l] Nice power supply on eBay...

2017-12-19 Thread Robert L
Hi folks,

A seller has some nice American Power Designs DC-DC converters listed on
eBay: item 142427227003
https://www.ebay.com/itm/DC-DC-Converter-180V-35mA-Regulated-Out-10-13V-In-American-Power-Design-/142427227003

I spoke with an engineer at American Power Designs and he believes (but was
not absolutely sure) that these are S10 supplies derated for 90C operation.
In any case, data sheet attached here.

I ordered a few and had one running on my bench... 12V / 1 A in and 180 V
at something like 40 mA constant load... I forget the exact conditions as I
tested at a variety of operating points and didn't take notes... (Bad dog,
no biscuit!). Ran them with loads up to 50 mA and saw output sag to around
177 V at the higher loads.

Warm but not toasty throughout my brief testing. I've ordered a few more...

No connection to seller, but he has been very easy to deal with and was
very fast shipping. No connection to this auction or seller other than as a
happy buyer.

Best wishes for the holidays!

Bob
