Re: [neonixie-l] Re: Homebrew high voltage nixie power supply

2019-10-17 Thread Kevin A.
I have some boards in stock for the initial orders which I am assembling;
I'll see if there are any left at the end of this batch (20 total; 5 of
which are already accounted for, with more requests on tindie).

Re: [neonixie-l] SCM Marchant 414 schematic diagrams anyone?

2019-10-17 Thread Dekatron42
Yes of course I will share what happens.

I am right now reverse engineering the power supply but since I don't know
what the original transistors where, they've all been replaced with modern
components, and I am not even sure the replacements are the correct types I
don't know where I will end up. I'll do my best with the schematic and if I
can't understand the design I might build another power supply to power the
calculator with to see if it works. The necessary voltages are +100V,
+197V, +200V, +20V, -35V, -18V and -15V and the total power is only 15W.

Re: [neonixie-l] SCM Marchant 414 schematic diagrams anyone?

2019-10-17 Thread Paolo Cravero
Hello Martin.
No, I don't have the diagram. I have seen that calculator for sale and I
was tempted to get it ... almost just to try to fix the power supply! At
least I think it is the same machine. Would you share your findings,
if/when you get it back in working state?

I have a Casio CL-200 with individual Nixie tubes. it accepts digits
endlessly but does not calculate. It has a good amount of discrete
components with obscure part # and reverse engineering from the board is
no-go (too long). No way to find a schematic diagram which, at the time,
was probably highly secret. It might still be somewhere in Casio archives,
though.

Good luck with your SCM 414.

Paolo

[neonixie-l] Dancing Cowboy Nixie

2019-10-17 Thread Michail Wilson
I am sure most, if not all of you, know the youtuber: glasslinger
If not, here is your chance. Typically he does radio restoration, but makes
many of his own tubes.

Here is a new video of him (Ron). Great knowledge to be had with this guy. I
love his videos. You may wish to subscribe to his channel.

[neonixie-l] Re: Heads Up: IN-12 Sale on eBay (20% off)

2019-10-17 Thread Robert G. Schaffrath
I know and I have also come to realize the prices now will look like
bargains in 10 years since they are not making any more. I still recall
when B-7971's were quite common and could be had for, adjusted for
inflation, about USD$15/each and they were plentiful (paid USD$5/each in
1979/1980 for the 6 NOS B-7971's I have). Then the 25 NOS ZM1022's for
USD$4.81/each including sockets back in 2002. I plan to use 4 for the
IN-12's with one of the cheap Chinese clock kits (some assembly required
LOL). If I like it I might make some additional one for interested friends.

The sad fact is that except for Dalibor Farby, they are not making Nixie's
any longer and when the supply dries up, that is it. At least the quality
of the Russian tubes is good. The Chinese ones will probably be around for
a while longer but with tubes like the QS30's lacking mercury, they wear
out pretty fast according to reports. I suspect many will probably get used
up as replacements for prematurely burned out tubes. I am amazed that the
ZM1022's are rated 200,000 hours and QS30's can wear out in weeks.
