I findit amusing that a precision watch timing instrument has a 4 digit

[neonixie-l] Re: Neons for all!

2022-04-12 Thread Neil QQ
Memotronics

is a good source for the hi-brite C2A and A3C bare lamps. They come with
2" (50 mm) leads. (US company)

Has anyone had success in reviving NOS (emphasis on the O) neon lamps? I
acquired LT2-32-2T lamps (1" bulb length). I've tried running them at
elevated currents (2x to 10x) with limited success. Out of the box, the
electrodes only light the top 1/4 to 1/3 of the electrode length. After
over-driving them rather severely (~10X for 1 hour) the lit electrode
length extends to about 1/2.

[neonixie-l] Re: OT: Secret Life of Components

2022-04-12 Thread 'Nick' via neonixie-l
I met Tim a few times years ago - In another life I used to make
solid-state Tesla coils and electromagnetic can crushers/disk platter
launchers using massive low-ESR capacitor banks - the UK TC group had (and
still have) an annual bash up at the Cambridge Museum of Technology
 .

A long time ago, probably 15 years ago or more, Tim used to come to watch
us blow stuff up and throw some really good bolts of lightning. Sometimes
it was our own kit that exploded, other times we used a lot of thermite
(allegedly) . Sometimes it got very very scary - in 2008 we had a rather
unexpected uncontrolled rapid disassembly
- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYMckRUXgEs (filmed by my youngest son
who was also interviewed by the BBC!).

Re: [neonixie-l] Re: Neons for all!

2022-04-12 Thread Adrian Godwin
I've got a VFD clock to build sometime. It's a multidigit tube with wires
at both ends. I thought I'd extend and strengthen the wires to support the
glass by soldering them into fine brass tubing as used by modelmakers.
It'll probably turn out a mess because of all the different radii but might
be OK on simple neons, though brass probably doesn't match the Dalibor
bases too well. Maybe nickel plated brass.

match Dalibors tubes.
