[neonixie-l] Happy New Year and a request..

2024-01-02 Thread Nicholas Stock
Fellow nixie nuts, a Happy New Year to you all, let's hope 2024 brings good
fortune to all, and more importantly, cheaper nixies (ha ha ha).

I'm on the hunt for some MM5314N chips if anyone has any?

Cheers,

Nick

Very nice, would be cool to merge the 2 clocks into 1 and somehow display messages onto the VFD (through SMS, facebook, twitter or .).
Eeberfest used to have a setup similar to that http://eeberfest.net/index.php but it's no longer online for quite a while now.

Happy New Year, all! (We're some of the last people to see the year change.)

We're planning to go to a local cinematic presentation of The Poseidon
Adventure at 11PM tonight. They are timing the movie play so that the
clock on the ship in the movie chimes in the new year just as the year
changes in real life.

I checked my Nixie watch in preparation for this timely outing, and was
dismayed to discover that it was two seconds slow. Sheesh, I only set it
in October.

Those wooden railers are sought-after. It has lite-up scoring, so
it's almost on-topic.

I wonder why the US series of Happy Days, set in the 1950s, used a
Bally Nip-It from the 1970s rather than find a 1950s Happy Days?

Have you tried Steve Young at the Pinball Resource? http://

Is it the stepped conical red plastic piece you need? Or is it
something inside that? A metal part that screws into the cabinet
perhaps? If I know what you are looking for I can ask around.

Priority one is to work in the darkroom. I have all the B&W film I shot
from Jan to Novenmber 2010, all developed, but not one roll even has a
proof sheet. Everything from December is waiting to meet the soup.

The Puppy is due for his first agility session soon.

I have an Audio AMp that I started building a couple of years ago that

I have a Couple of Kits to work on after thatI have the veldman and

The 6973 has a slightly different basing diagram to the 6CZ5.

In the 6973 G1 is on Pin 3 and 6

On the 6CZ5, Pin 8 is "Internal Connection - DO not USE". Perhaps your

For my part, its mostly HV & Audio (especially value amps) that I do
now, but I "feel the need" to build another clock!!!

I don't know what value amps are Nick, but before Xmas I had the
stereo valve amp in my 1959 Wurlitzer jukebox completely rebuilt by
an expert. Every resistor, cap and tube. Electro-Harmonix bought out

All I can say is that bringing the amp back to factory spec. has
amazed me. Punchy bass and a lovely sweet tone. The loudness
compensation for records cut at different volumes is working well
too. I have the wrong tweeter in the juke - someone replaced it with
a small horn tweeter at some point and it should be a 4" cone. So for
now that has been cut out while I source a replacement, as it was
giving a shrillness that was not very nice to hear.

I just sourced a jukebox I fell in love with when I saw an example
last summer. It's a Rockola 1448 'icicle' of 1955. One came in on a
container from the US just before Xmas and I now have first refusal
from the guy who is restoring it. As usual the glass pilasters are
smashed, otherwise it is shabby but restorable and the friend doing
the restoration is second to none. I only hope I can afford it when
it is finished. I have to sell my AMi K first.

I have a 'Nick-o-time' nixie clock back for repair. I made two of
these. One I gave to Nicko a while back and the other was snapped up
by a friend as a present for her husband. I'd been a bit brain-dead
about the way I did the power supply and frankly I am at a loss to
know why it worked at all. The one I have back has fried the circuit
board quite badly - an overheating voltage regulator. So, Nicko,
unplug that clock if it is still working until I suss out what the
remedy might be. I've had a quick fiddle and again I am having
problems with no regulation via the feedback pin on the MAX1771. It
cranks up to around 240 volts and wants to fry the FET. Nice.

I have a bench full of unfinished projects and a head full of
ignorance and new ideas too. Combined with a lack of time and energy
it is a frustrating time for me. I have orders for a magic trick
stacking up and no time to get those made either, although I have a
set of five almost finished. You can see a video of the magic trick
here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lw9MGa7iQq4.

I promised Fixitsan I'd proto up one of the IV-11 smartsocket clocks
in the summer, but I never did that either, although I did design a
board for it. Then there is that other guy here I promised I'd make a
clock for...

Happy New Year,

Re: [neonixie-l] Happy New Year! So what projects (Solar)

2011-01-02 Thread Adam Jacobs
Maybe I'm looking at it backwards, but I always thought that going off-grid
was necessitated by moving to someplace that isn't in the middle of
civilization.. That is to say, the reward is that you don't have to live in
the middle of Seattle or one of its suburbs... You could live deep in the
Omaks and have 200 acres of land. For most of us, the places that we live
are foremost limited by where civilization already has foothold. But if you
are willing to live off-grid, all you need is the most basic sort of road to
your land. Sounds pretty nice to me, actually.. (This from a man whose
foremost concern when purchasing his house was the quality of the available
broadband connection [fiber]). :D

Re: [neonixie-l] Happy New Year! So what projects (Solar)

2011-01-02 Thread Michail1
I thought about going solar as well. Perfect roof for it as well, except
Seattle area.

It was cost prohibitive though. :(
Meanning, I have the cash to pay for it, but it would take 9-10 years to
repay for itself with all the rebates and incentives, but that doesn't
include the possible maintenance and repairs.

An investment I am in is paying 14% and with compounded interest (solar you
are forced to do this since you can't take out what you make back), it
take less than 5 years.

Has anyone found a true reason to get solar other than the kewlness of
having it on the roof? (Meaning a differnent reason that being forced because
of location - middle of dessert)

Mostly off grid power projects for me, since I moved off the grid 18 months
ago. PV arrays and wind turbines have been sucking up a lot of time, as well
as working on a gasifier.

it only displays the time if someone is near it. I need to save every watt I

Given that most of us had a bit of time off, what new toys have you
been building/acquired?

Happy New Years Nick,

My current project is a thermostat for the house using nixie tubes and neon
bulbs.

This may explain my pending divorce ;)

No Nixie-ish projects here. All though I have restored a T&N master clock
and ond got it to run - and fixed a huge strange mechanical English bell
timer clock thingy I purcased on ebay..

My next nixie project is hopefully that thing from you Nick ;-)

Re: [neonixie-l] Happy New Year! So what projects have people been working on...

2011-01-02 Thread Grahame Marsh

Hi everyone

I've been working on a VFD clock and proverb design. I have the
proverbs on a SD card and the card has ethernet interface (W5100) to
fetch the time from a NTP server. Using a Atmel mega1284p in a 40 pin
DIL which makes it eyesight and soldering friendly and yet has 16k ram
so allows for the (relatively) large buffers needed for the FAT and
ethernet. The card is configured using HTML pages also held on the SD card.

Other stuff has been added to my website and I have moved it to its own
domain

www.sgitheach.org.uk

All the best for the year and may your neon never cease to glow

Grahame
