Periodic trap messages
Hi, I'm looking at deploying Net-Snmp's snmpd as an agent on all of our linux boxes. I have previously used a commercial SNMP agent that had the ability to send periodic heartbeats and as well as periodic traps for certain events like low diskspace and low free swap space. I would like to retain this functionality with Net-Snmp. Here's my snmpd.conf thus far for the diskspace traps: rocommunity disk / 15% disk /tmp 15% disk /var 15% disk /usr 15% disk /fs/data-01 15% createUser internal MD5 iquerySecName internal rwuser internal monitor -r 60 -o dskPath -o dskErrorMsg "dskTable" dskErrorFlag != 0 informsink trap1 This will generate a low disk space trap once when the available diskspace for the partition drops below 15%. I would like to change this to have it send it every hour until the issue clears. I'm guessing this would require using the 'repeat' directive to reset the error flag periodically, but am unsure. I got nothing thus far for the hearbeat traps. Any help is appreciated, Rajiv -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Does Net-SNMP really work on Windows?
I have been attempting to get Net-SMTP installed and working on a Win2003 Server for months now, so far without success. Question is does Net-SNMP really work in a Windows 2003 environment or is it mainly suited to Linux environments? My intended use is quite simple, receive a feed from a temperature monitor (AKCP Sensorprobe II) and run a batch file (to shutdown the Server) if it gets too hot in the Server room. Is this likely to be possible or am I wasting my time trying to get this working on a Windows 2003 Server? Re: MIB Trouble (Cannot adopt OID / Unlinked OID)
2009/8/10 Andre Dieball : > As it's quite long, here a link for download: > http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/15814/CPI_SPV21215241BI-4.mib Thanks. Yes - there is an error in the MIB file. The various traps refer to an enterprise OID of "CPIPDUTraps", but this is never defined in the MIB, not imported from another MIB. So the library MIB parser is quite correct to complain. > As said, it works perfectly fine when using e.g. The ireasoning mib browser > and doing a walk ... The problem doesn't lie with the walk that you are doing, but with parsing the MIB file. And the error only affects the trap definitions, so shouldn't affect other SNMP commands. I'm also surprised that the MIB is still using the old, obsolete SMIv1 syntax. But there are numerous other problems with the MIB too, (such as only using scalars rather than a table, and invalid MIB object names throughout). It appears to me that whoever designed this particular MIB, doesn't really understand SNMP very well. Dave -- Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. Length issue for OID value in Netsnmp-5.4.2.1 version
Hi, I have upgraded netsnmp-5.3.x to netsnmp-5.4.2.1 version in linux environment.snmp daemon is up and running for netsnmp-5.4.2.1. I am using MIB Browser to execute snmp queries, when I do snmpwalk from top of the MIB tree its failing at one particular OID 1.3.6.1.4.1.11.2.4.3.20.4.0 with "Generic Error". This is a scalar OID which is of type OCTET STRING, the value returned by this OID is of length 2048 bytes. It seems that there is a length issue, because if I return the value with reduced length to 1024 bytes then the snmpwalk gets through well. so, when the length is around 1400 bytes snmpwalk starts giving the error message as "Generic Error". snmpwalk failure for this OID is consistent if the length is retained to 2048bytes. importantly please note that the same OID with 2048bytes of length value was working perfectly fine in the earlier version of netsnmp-5.3.x version. I have taken all the patches from my earlier version also. Would you please let me know if there is any patch for handling the similar kind of length issues in netsnmp-5.4.2.1 and the reason why I am seeing this issue in latest version and not in the eralier version?. Any suggestions or comments are welcome. Please respond me as early as possible, it would be of great help. Hi Dave Last section says . ---cut--- What is the Official Slogan of the net-snmp-coders list? --- "The current implementation is non-obvious and may need to be improved."
