how the snail got its shell. nikuko pared her toenails, and a
slug, ever-thoughtful snapshot of writing now, and every toenail
and every fingernail, things of beauty, and so, comforting when
in the relative motion of it, i eject everything in memory, and
then the comfort of the flute, an ancient instrument (not mine!),
a bell-shaped sadness, expansive in the disturbed grounds below
what passes for lives, houses, automobiles, delivery trucks, wasp
nests, arroyos, bush and radiations -
