[NetBehaviour] Rough Draft

2021-01-05 Thread { brad brace } via NetBehaviour
"ROUGH DRAFT" Probably a frequently used,
full-circle generic Title, akin to the commom decoy-text used by commercial spammers (same family as Boilerplate,
Lorem Ipsum, Metadata, Big Data Surveillance and received ideas), it offers disengagement and the premise for a
large novel random Text that dissolves outwards revealing an almost molecular transit: new contours with
sheltered/encoded detail. In other words an Incidental Biography of Dissolution; points lost; trajectories
retraced... something like that: inside, outside, melding parameters, lost locations briefly reimagined: but it
seems almost urgent to now recall the ongoing beyond beginning -- and so this humble epistled offering: [331pp 175mb
$33] -- An Exfiltration of Remote Collisions... At any rate, the commercial-ubiquitous property shots were also used
in my forrent-series of tall (life-sized) narrow columns of justified 3-color text and neutralized blocked imagery.
This ongoing collection of real estate pictures is becoming more wide-angled/panoramic lately, and this prompts
another approach. Largely emptied of local light, the 3/4 tones provide structured relief as does the granular,
stretched text. Maps are brittle. Another more extensive, ledgible, unillustrated novel (open source), thickly woven
chronicle is promised by private remaindered request. Contact for pricing . It may be all
that's left to follow: a very magnified detailed and extensive shred of collected compelling crucial textual
tapestry... [with much appreciated input from Etaoin Shrdlu] http://www.amazon.com/dp/B07RNX4F3T

and of course: Amazon (more as an index to the work for some; direct
purchase preferred of course)

To keep something out you keep something in. Trapped.

The work examines the sensation of disassociation, unfamiliarity and the
related qualities of distrust and fear – but also the allure of what was
once known and the mysteries it contains. The work expresses the moment
that is the opportunity to cross the divide hanging on the decision that
needs to be made.

Alongside this idea is the presentation of the frail and failing old guard
– established Western, colonial canons of power, authority and perceived
ideals – struggling to maintain a tenuous persistence within the shadow of
their inexorable demise. They are trapped and held hostage by the very
nature of their philosophy.

Although fueled by geo-political events, the work references the
individual experience. Divisions and philosophical entrenchment are
presently occurring like I have not been aware of before within my own
lifetime. Likewise, a significant push for change and confrontation of
what, until recently, has been viewed as unalterable, is occurring.

The content embraces the duality of the divide, the idealized and the
unknown and the inevitability of change that looms larger than either.

The publication is a response to the dichotomy – both the fear and the
hope.

NB: there are still at this time several hundred red
drawings underway -- never deliberately counted them but
probably closer to 750 in number although the total
fluctuates of course, they are an easy strategic investment:
the increased value(s) of one increases the value of all 750
-- they're really 'peaking' now and could quickly be
suitable for a hotel (multi-unit) complex installation: one
or two framed (per spec) artworks per room in all 500+
suites/living-quarters -- so still very much open to these
'group' purchase options --individual
purchases/subscriptions-really are also in effect {carefully
packaged and shipped at my expense.}
email:bbraceATeskimoPUNTOcom Another possibility for the
remaining red drawings is to stage a permanent (but adjunct)
exhibition which is replenished when work is sold or removed
-- in this way they begin to reference the MetaConstruct
(installation series... as well as enabling other present
uses... this could end up being more of a new gallery-design
project (lots of ideas for that!)

Numbered Past Origin: 18 inadvertently curated volumes of my photos, paintings, prints,

textures, shadows, rust, reflections, fluids, finessed focus, 35mm glass-mounted
transparencies, angled light, color temps, peripheries, plumbing, perspectives, windows

interaction, abusive pretend-careers; questionable institutional education; collegial

http://www.alansondheim.org/archive.jpg

What I've been doing: working on my archives on a 12 terabyte
harddrive. I imagine I'll fill 2 1/2 or so at the moment. So far
there are how many, probably 250,000 files. At least 150,000
stills, 3000 videos, no idea how many texts, they take up very
little room, probably at least 1000-2000 pieces of music, these are
conservative. It's been a huge problem, what goes where. Files are
found in several places, too much for filtering. Sometimes there
are multiple variations or formats. I wonder what's happened to
Barcelona. Bad obviously Suarez was sold off, Messi seems lost, the
rest of the team as well. Griezmann wanders. Bad politics behind
the scenes. It's a mess. Watching Athletico Madrid is more
rewarding. Below is a sliced example culled from a tree of the
first several hundred files. If you're name's in it, you're there,
if it's not, it should be, if I'm not, I've disappeared. Images
from all over in Geography, amazing work in Dance, deep sound in
music, texts scattered all over the place. This will take days to
be sure. I'm lost in my own imaginary.

[NetBehaviour] Four Visual Poems (12hr)

2020-09-22 Thread { brad brace } via NetBehaviour

Thank you for your patience and understanding. Big Grey
Bricks: This project also serves as a rehearsal for its
culmination as a series of offset-printed volumes: each 800+
full-bleed pages (5x8"_300lpi), where the full integrated
rhythm of greyscale-sequence can be more intricately
resolved. I'd provide all design, prepress and production. The tonality of
the imagery is important; these 12hr-jpegs scanned from
film-prints are quick approximations for an institutionally unsupported
outcome.

The entire surface of the globe is covered by “fast-frozen relations,” building up and
melting, moving in a constant flux, but never settling down -- when all resources are
gone, only time matters. The very gestures with which optics conjure up

reality are actually a concealment of the real.

"A compassionate observer, { brad brace } forges a personal aesthetic in these
12hr-images infused with blank-sadness and a sense of mystery. What makes them
both
new and significant is the fact that he organizes its contents in sequences,
applying
the principles of cinematographic montage to fixed images."

Immaculate Perception: to be happy in gazing: with dead will, free from the
grip and
greed of selfishness -- cold and ashy-grey all over, but with intoxicated
moon-eyes... Extraordinary Rendition. Manifest Destiny. Abyssal Plain. Living
Truth.
Sublime Madness. Autofictional Metanarrative. Sovetskoe Foto. Śūnyatā. Ultimate
Reality.

> > > Synopsis: The 12hr-ISBN-JPEG Project began December 30, 1994. A

`round-the-clock posting of sequenced hypermodern imagery from { brad
brace }. The hypermodern minimizes the familiar, the known, the
recognizable; it suspends identity, relations and history. This
discourse, far from determining the locus in which it speaks, is avoiding
the ground on which it could find support. It is trying to operate a
decentering that leaves no privilege to any center.

   The 12-hour ISBN JPEG Project
   -
  began December 30, 1994

Time-honoured, pointless Hypermodern Imagery... posted/mailed every 12 hours...
a spectral, trajective alignment for the 00`s! A continuum of minimalist masks
in the face of catastrophe; conjuring up transformative metaphors for the everyday...
A poetic reversibility of exclusive events: visual haiku...

A post-rhetorical, continuous, apparently random sequence of imagery...
genuine gritty, greyscale... corruptable, compact, collectable and compelling

convergence. The vernacular voluptuousness of the grey imminence: the art of
making
the other disappear. Continual visual impact; an optical drumming, sculpted in
duration, on the endless present of the Net.

An extension of the printed ISBN-Book (0-9690745) series... critically
unassimilable... imagery is gradually acquired, selected and re-sequenced
over time... ineluctable, vertiginous connections. The 12hr dialtone...

[NetBehaviour] Global Island Project on wikimedia: Island 1.0

2020-08-11 Thread { brad brace } via NetBehaviour

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Global_Islands_Project_Island1.0.pdf

✨ 🌴
On an island, a place of edges, the ocean provides a counter-narrative,
nonlinear in
what it reveals; "time's arrow" is modified by the rhythmic cycle of the sea as
it
encounters, and ever transforms, the shore. Historical, archaeological, or even
narrative knowledge is challenged by its meeting with the sea that offers up
its own
kind of knowing. We need to stretch, even confound, our usual frames to take
account
of such knowledge.

Global Islands Project -- ongoing series of multi-media
pdf-ebooks/field-recordings -- a
pastoral, pictorial and phonic elicitation of island parameters. An intensive
examination of small islands and their paradigmatic solutions to globalism...
Ethnographically a shared world of historical experience -- not the
romanticized and
divided universe of them and us.

Your feudal-world is based on mutual relief at your common corruption. Maybe
some
cultures are based on even worse. But that wouldn't change the bad faith of it
and as
years go by, you wake at night in terror of your whole life being an act of
shattered
faith, where everything is self-interest and nothing more, where every human
interaction is driven by a silent, even subconscious calculation of some
ulterior
motive, to the point that a sea of bad faith has taken over your whole life,
there's no
small island left from which you can even try to build a bridge of good faith,
because
even that effort becomes suspect, even good faith is nothing but
self-interested, even
altruism is nothing but solipsistic, even your professed agonizing right here
right now
is nothing but a gesture, made to the conscience in order to assure it that it
exists.

Deglobalisation is not a synonym for withdrawing from the world economy. It
means a
process of restructuring the world economic and political system so that the
latter
builds the capacity of local and national economies instead of degrading it.
Deglobalisation means the transformation of a global economy from one integrated
around the needs of transnational corporations to one integrated around the
needs of
peoples, nations, and communities. We cannot talk about construction without
deconstruction, reintegration without disintegration.

The world (universe) is mostly filled with the black hole (or the vast and deep sea )
of the forgotten. Compared with this, the world of memory is only a small island in

the vast "sea of oblivion."

The lexical disambiguation relies on looking askance to identify possible transubstantiation.
Massive designed output sidesteps tens of thousands of automated negative-selection scripted
outlines as closer-looks at miniature petroleum placeholders across ruptured daily Fashion
Diorama. Displaced Sense of Self. Future Deformation. Becoming what you Desired. Digital
Distortion Deferred. Plenty of Inspirational Deniability. Bifurcated Terminus. Deep Vein

Projections

An element from the MetaConstruct, these aspects grew from earlier (1970's)
installations involving slide-projections on moving surfaces. Often the projected
image was the 'still version' of the moving background; black on black, and white
on white drapery was a frequent component of these impromptu exhibits. The
MetaConstruct developed imagery from a personal collection of nurses' uniforms,
commercial film-leader frames, and a preoccupation with photographing parked white
cars at night. These explorations were somehow distilled in the form of sculptural
presentations of various generic water-glasses atop hand-cut circular plate-glass
mirrors; both a sacrifice and a consecration.

Another outcome was a sort of 'in-line' image: small newspaper ads were to be
converted into machine-stitched garment tags and sewn into the nurses' uniforms.

-
Ilfochrome (also commonly known as Cibachrome) is a dye destruction

positive-to-positive photographic process used for the reproduction of film
transparencies on photographic paper. The prints are made on a dimensionally
stable
polyester base as opposed to traditional paper base. Since it uses 13 layers of
azo
dyes sealed in a polyester base, the print will not fade, discolor, or
deteriorate
for an extended time. Accelerated aging tests conducted by Henry Wilheim
indicated
the product resisted fading under display conditions longer than any other known
photographic color material. Characteristics of Ilfochrome prints are image
clarity,
color purity, as well as being an archival process able to produce critical
accuracy
to the original transparency.

Ilfochrome (also commonly known as Cibachrome) is a dye destruction

positive-to-positive photographic process used for the reproduction of film
transparencies on photographic paper. The prints are made on a dimensionally
stable
polyester base as opposed to traditional paper base. Since it uses 13 layers of
azo
dyes sealed in a polyester base, the print will not fade, discolor, or
deteriorate
for an extended time. Accelerated aging tests conducted by Henry Wilheim
indicated
the product resisted fading under display conditions longer than any other known
photographic color material. Characteristics of Ilfochrome prints are image
clarity,
color purity, as well as being an archival process able to produce critical
accuracy
to the original transparency.

To keep something out you keep something in. Trapped.

The work examines the sensation of disassociation,
unfamiliarity and the related qualities of distrust and fear
– but also the allure of what was once known and the
mysteries it contains. The work expresses the moment that is
the opportunity to cross the divide hanging on the decision
that needs to be made.

http://bradbracebook.store/000pdfs/LAMU2005.mp4 >> another
Lamu film 2005

LAMU 2005: (2:18:44) No one ever said, "Hakuna Matata." I prefer this
small, nimble 176x144 mp4-film format: from a tiny, rare now, palm-sized
SD camera. Other earlier PDF publications and field recordings are a part
of this Global Islands Project: Lamu off eastern Kenya, was easily the most
hostile photo environment: in your viewfinder, the little speck of man in
his boat half a kilometer upstream would suddenly stand-up and begin
loudly berating you for not asking permission (or not paying)... and so it
went... the audio recordings were more successful/surreptitious... great
deliberate influx of mainland Christian musical entreaties in the main
town square versus the many established mosques that in all facing Mecca,
largely determined the irregular maze/layout of the town, as did the
sequestered Islamic courtyards and rooftops -- (I was allowed to visit
two mosques only after privileged requests from the imans with great
difficulty: occasionally I paid very willing local children to take photos
inside and conduct tours) -- most of the added music is from purchased
casual-quality cassette bootlegs/mixes from the dusty local music outlet;
I added a drumtrack and superfluous sounds; the music was mostly from
Mombasa and probably more closely reflects that environment replete with
middle-aged European women (sex tourists): you'll spot a couple in the
film; but the pace and Kiswahili lingua is correct: there was always
something going on, especially in the town square -- the depicted
stick-dance is of course a rather depreciated enactment of a traditional
Islamic ritual -- the dhows, dugouts and motley assortment of other boats
occasionally stayed afloat, only with vigourous bailing: every craft had
at least one full-time bailer as the handmade vessels with seams stuffed
with resinous-rags, routinely took on water and many were submerged in the
harbor during choppy seas: but there was a definitive grace about a dhow
underway: no keel, so you see passengers hiked way out on long leeward
planks -- petrol was prohibitively expensive and there was only one
(police) vehicle on the island: the abused donkeys were the main means of
transport for men and very heavy loads of hand-hewn limestone bricks from
across the channel -- there was some undetermined major Islamic
gathering/meeting (depicted in the film) and fierce protests/parades
against the infamous Danish cartoonist while I was there: only a very few
white tourists (mzungu): once when out in the bush, I was spotted by a
terrified/crying little black girl who would not be consoled by her mother
:) [many stories from this visit] apparently, not so long ago muffled
screams from prisoners could be heard at night from the old British fort
in the town square: the present-day Kenyan police have their own
notoriety: prefaced by a shrill whistle, all activity had to stop in the
town for the raising and lowering of the flag -- this rule did not apply
to the outlying informal clusters of mostly crude structures loosely
designated by the residents' origin (Shella, Manda, Kashmiri, Bombay,
Kandahari, Mataoni) -- despite all the corruption and dysfunction, life
largely went on in the typically exuberant African fashion.

"Mongrel Reparations" is an e-book from Brad Brace, 2019-20 & 1980: 207

Hamon in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada plus sudden digital printed carpet

By now they have wonderful, well-developed irregular edges, so they'll
all be re-scanned large format and something made from their outlines. Also
some more
surface purple-pencil drawing from overlaid pocket projections -- plus, detailed, miniature

atlas/constellation/notation bits...

NB: there are still at this time several hundred red drawings underway --
never deliberately counted them but probably closer to 750 in number
although the total fluctuates of course -- they're really 'peaking' now
and could quickly be suitable for a hotel (multi-unit) complex installation:
one or two framed (per spec) artworks per room in all 500+ suites/living-quarters --
so still very much open to these 'group' purchase options --individual
purchases/subscriptions-really are also in effect {carefully packaged and
shipped at my expense.} email:bbraceATeskimoPUNTOcom

Another possibility for the remaining red drawings is to stage a
permanent (but adjunct) exhibition which is replenished when work is sold or
removed -- in this way they begin to reference the MetaConstruct
(installation series... as well as enabling other present uses... this could end

up being more of a new gallery-design project (lots of ideas for that!)

The Linen Closet
The linen closet is a dark, snug space, with barely enough
room for one person in it. You notice what feel like
towels, blankets, sheets, and spare pillows. One useful
thing you've discovered is a metal doorknob set at waist
level into what might be a door. Next to it is a spring
lever labeled 'NOISY!'. There is also a small button set

[NetBehaviour] STIFT SNUG KLAPMUTTS

2019-09-02 Thread { brad brace }

In a book of just over 40 pages, the artist quickly examines the habits and
handicaps of modern thought and fiction, then breaks fresh historical ground
concerning imperialism, capital and energy. He reveals a provocative set of imagery
for where we are today, torn between carbon-based growth and climate-linked
survival, and for our great derangement – our inability to look at what we know is
coming straight at us. Hidden Lies, False Exclusion, Oppressive Verification.

Half a weird attempt of preserving memory from the Internet and half an
algorithmic endurance performance, Fino alla fine (Till the end) is the
attempt to trace a potentially infinite line in time joining together the
very first second of life of amatorial youtube videos.

The result is an evergrowing video collage where intimate stories from all
over the internet are intertwined by an automatic process of accumulation
running 24/7.

Publicly released in february, during the homonim solo exhibition at
ADIACENZE in Bologna, the ongoing video is currently 4 hours 30 minutes long
and in a couple of year it's going to be one of the longest timeline on the
Internet.

For what it worths...

Last but not least, the video has been sonorized with a monotone music by
friend and legendary musician Luca Leggero.

[NetBehaviour] Rough Draft

2019-05-10 Thread { brad brace }

"ROUGH DRAFT" Probably a frequently used, full-circle
generic Title, akin to the commom decoy-text used by
commercial spammers (same family as Boilerplate, Lorem
Ipsum, Metadata, Big Data Surveillance and received ideas),
it offers disengagement and the premise for a large novel
random Text that dissolves outwards revealing an almost
molecular transit: new contours with sheltered/encoded
detail. In other words an Incidental Biography of
Dissolution; points lost; trajectories retraced...
something like that: inside, outside, melding parameters,
lost locations briefly reimagined: but it seems almost
urgent to now recall the ongoing beyond beginning -- and so
this humble epistled offering: [331pp 175mb $33] -- An
Exfiltration of Remote Collisions... At any rate, the
commercial-ubiquitous property shots were also used in my
forrent-series of tall (life-sized) narrow columns of
justified 3-color text and neutralized blocked imagery. This
ongoing collection of real estate pictures is becoming more
wide-angled/panoramic lately, and this prompts another
approach. Largely emptied of local light, the 3/4 tones
provide structured relief as does the granular, stretched
text. Maps are brittle. Another more extensive, ledgible,
unillustrated novel (open source), thickly woven chronicle
is promised by private remaindered request. Contact for
pricing . It may be all that's left to
follow: a very magnified detailed and extensive shred of
collected compelling crucial textual tapestry... [with much
appreciated input from Etaoin Shrdlu]

...part of a series of an original that never
existed...

[The following file is, as you will see, from a printed
Proposal sent in 1984 to dozens of art galleries primarily
in North America. It is of some interest as it espouses and
enacts a method for the creation of a great life-enhancing
narrative, full of situationist-drift and revision. There
was marginal financial, political and critical support for
this project at the time. The various series of art-objects
are occasionally altered but they usually remain sequestered
in beautiful cork-lined, shellacked, plywood boxes...
Archetypal Exhibition: As Single Entity. Nomadic
Distributions. Consecrated Anarchy. Far from being a new
foundation, it swallows up all foundations, it assures a
universal collapse but as a positive and joyous event. The
power of Affirming Chaos, Divergence, and Decentring.
Heterogeneous series (`complicating' within itself all
series). Continually eccentric circle with a constantly
decentred centre.

The nonhierarchical work is a condensation of coexistences,
a simultaneity of events. Identity persists, but it is
produced as the law that complicates all series, causing
them to return within each one as the course of compulsion.

The Work has sought to be a product of the manners and
places in which it is seen.

The speculator is playing a mathematical game into a set of
random events.

An Insatiable project, endlessly producing and consuming
`systems', metaphorhaunted classifications of an ultimately
opaque reality.

The set of objects the gallery displays is sustained only by
the fiction that they somehow constitute a coherent
representational universe...

[NetBehaviour] ASH IS

2019-04-15 Thread { brad brace }
sound. For example, Foley designers use the sound of celery
breaking to re-create the sound of bones breaking.

ASH IS

These are my raw production stills, made from late-1970's TV character-generator studio
equipment, for a series of unique video-detective-poems/stories that combined
interdependent social/narrative smoking conventions/structure with a live-shot of wispy,
smoldering cigarettes/cigars/reefers that coincide with the length of the
stanza/story-chapter displayed on-screen. The angular/vicious, clumsy, rastorized,
monospaced character-font is very appropriate, amplifying the facets in the glass
ash-tray -- perfectly generic... the paused video-tape generates a distorted pattern.
Not in consequently, video rasters look like lines of ash. The smoking culture/language
is all but extinct in populist Western society. The orchestrated pauses/punctuation in
dialogue/intercourse and dramatic emphasis suggest social/narrative interaction and yet
singular identity is necessarily cancelled/snuffed-out.

A SYSTEM DESIGNED FOR FAILURE

The act of smoking is often a substitute for conversation or effectively directs it. The
smoking author, smoking characters and smoking reader are chemically linked, prompted by
textual reference. The detached narrator/detective, always waiting/watching... lights
another. Lungs, nostrils and lips.

Concurrently I was also interested in the fixed physicality of gesture suggested by the
positions of the cigarettes in their packages as displayed/proffered in print
advertisements. This resulted in a number of enamel outline paintings that likely no
longer exist. I remember white outlines on vast deep shiny royal blue backgrounds.
Despite frequent application, there was never any institutional support for these works.
Corruption run rampant. The detective genre has been an important aspect in my work: by
investigating clues/references history is rewritten, causing even non-existing
events/crimes/identities to actually occur/materialize.

I can envision a small set of deluxe enlarged prints of just the frozen-video ashtray to
accompany this publication. Very remote chance.

[NetBehaviour] Corporate Proscienium

2019-02-05 Thread { brad brace }

Autonomy is not a fixed, essential state. Like gender, autonomy is created
through its performance, by doing/becoming; it is a political practice. To
become autonomous is to refuse authoritarian and compulsory cultures of
separation and hierarchy through embodied practices of welcoming
difference... Becoming autonomous is a political position for it thwarts
the exclusions of proprietary knowledge and jealous hoarding of resources,
and replaces the social and economic hierarchies on which these depend with
a politics of skill exchange, welcome, and collaboration. Freely sharing
these with others creates a common wealth of knowledge and power that
subverts the domination and hegemony of the master's rule.

The 12hr Select Assemblage

(perhaps too) faint harmonic threads weave through (temporally and

can lead to large assemblaged poster -- ample resolution to carry the
