It is of no use to fight the emperor You will loose, stupid you We all analyzed the position of the cultural economical power games, that's why we are hooked on computergames in the first place, but to express a 'personal' anger instead of an critical and observative attitude, people gather in the streets to be shotted by snipers Likewise language users snipe and shoot with their own ammunituon i.e. words "I come unarmed I come in Peace" Andreas Maria Jacobs w: http://www.nictoglobe.com w: http://burgerwaanzin.nl On May 11, 2011, at 17:40, Michael Szpakowski wrote: Ah yes! now I understand! -that is why the Chinese government has detained him without trial or charge for a month and is rumored to be torturing him... Re: [NetBehaviour] free Ai Weiwei
I'm not sure we are in the position to judge AWW from here. As for disrespect - I have a disrespect for the English aristocracy and all it stands for and would be very happy to see all their palaces burn to the ground and see them hanging from the lamp posts along the Mall. I support what the student demonstrators did in Regent Street and elsewhere and think it wrong they are being pursued by the Police and taken through the courts. They were heroically silly, at worst. However, at least their treatment is carried out in the public eye and through legal routes. Nobody has been made to disappear. The way the Chinese authorities operate is totally beyond the pale. No matter what you have done (and I don't think AWW has done anything that bad) no authority can make you disappear. That's what the paramilitaries did in Argentina and Chile. Having friends who went through those times in those places I know they would not tolerate such actions. I don't think China wants to be equated with that. I think we, and our elected representatives (for what they are worth), should be making it extremely clear to the Chinese that they cannot treat people like that anymore. If they do then they will not gain the respect they otherwise likely deserve and will be treated as pariahs. There wonderful history will then be worth shit - which is the point I think AWW was trying to make. Re: [NetBehaviour] Human body parts donation
Hi Heath, In the UK I understand that people do not own their own body parts, and so may not be in a position to offer you parts for your project. Your new body may have to come from citizens of more liberal regimes. I had an acquaintance whose heavily tattooed lower leg had to be amputated after an extended failure to recover from an accident. Before the operation he requested the leg, so he could have it embalmed as a curio. The surgeons refused, and he took legal advice. He was unable to compel the hospital to yield it up, even to a qualified embalmer. In our genetically modified future, of course, human(oid)s may not own their bodies in even more pressing terms - their cellular structures may be the property of the corporation that engineered their genome. They'll be able to work off the debt incurred by being born in just a few decades, at which point they'll be able to live the remainder of their lives as free agents, able to do what they will with their remaining years. All the best, James = On 11/05/11 15:11, info wrote: > I have been working on building new lawful identities (data bodies) for > some time now: > > http: //status.irational.org/identity_for_sale/ > http: //status.irational.org/ > > Recently, I have made a new identity, but am seeking a physical body to > bind to. [NetBehaviour] Human body parts donation
I have been working on building new lawful identities (data bodies) for some time now: http: //status.irational.org/identity_for_sale/ http: //status.irational.org/ Recently, I have made a new identity, but am seeking a physical body to bind to. I suspect this body will need to be made of parts. Would you be interested in passing legal ownership of one (or more) of your body parts to this new identity for physical delivery after your death or even during your life ? I can offer expenses, but not a fee. Thank you for your consideration. [NetBehaviour] Current: Digtial Art debate
Apologies for any cross-postings... I hope some of you will like to join us for a day of debate about how digital art can be collected, and the future of the field; with the aim to produce a manifesto of action points to strengthen the perception and position of digital art. Details below.. best wishes, Steph Current: An Experiment in Collecting Digital Art www.current-experiment.org.uk The 'Current' Experiment involves an exhibition, acquisition and debate, acting as a practical case study for the collection of digital art into museums and galleries. Having selected an artwork by Thomson & Craighead for acquisition, we will be hosting an event to discuss the issues and challenges that arise from the project on: 24th May 2011, at University of Central Lancashire, Preston. Through the debate we aim to challenge the current climate of collecting new media, and the fact that very few museums are collecting and exhibiting artists that work with this art form. The half day morning event will discuss the background, short-listing and acquisitions processes, and the realisation and installation of the exhibition - along with our findings from the experiment. The optional afternoon session is aimed mainly at sector professionals; to debate the role of digital art with in the wider visual arts sector, and the roles both the museum and education sector can play in this. This debate will be developed with experts from CRUMB (Curatorial Resource for Upstart Media Bliss – University of Sunderland); and chaired by Sarah Cook - Co-editor of Crumb and Research Fellow at the University. Tickets are £10 with a limited number of free places for UCLan students. Those interested in purchasing a ticket for this event should contact Project Co-Ordinator Steph Fletcher in the first instance: steph.fletc...@folly.co.uk.
