[NetBehaviour] "Freddy, oh Freddy (on his side)" by Luca Valerio at the Widget Art Gallery

2017-06-07 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

Hope this finds you well.
I'm so glad to present and host at the Widget Art Gallery: "Freddy, oh
Freddy (on his side)" by Luca Valerio, from June 7 to August 7 2017.

Widget Art Gallery http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag Web-App cross-device, just

About the artwork:

"Freddy, oh Freddy (on his side)" by Luca Valerio.

"Royal Wedding is a 1951 Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer musical comedy film starring
Fred Astaire and Jane Powell, with music by Burton Lane and lyrics by Alan
Jay Lerner. The film was directed by Stanley Donen; it was his second film
and the first he directed on his own. It was released as Wedding Bells in
the United Kingdom.
"You're All the World to Me": In one of his best-known solos, Astaire
dances on the walls and ceilings of his room because he has fallen in love
with a beautiful woman who also loves to dance. The idea occurred to
Astaire years before and was first mentioned by him in the MGM publicity
publication Lion's Roar in 1945.” (From Wikipedia

About the WAG:

Due to our needs that seem to be increasingly handheld, I decided to create
the WAG on 2009! The Widget Art Gallery is a mini single art-gallery-room
fitting into people's pocket. Every two months, the WAG hosts a solo
digital art exhibition related to its dynamic site-specific context. So,
the WAG works both as a sort of kunsthall showing temporary exhibitions and
as museum too, conserving all the past shows inside an online archive that
creates a permanent collection.

[NetBehaviour] exstrange eBay auction - Chiara Passa

2017-02-28 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

hope this email finds you well.
I am glad to invite you at #exstrange (http://exstrange.com/) eBay auction
on February 28 at 8 pm (UTC+01:00). My auction will lasts until March 7
2017.

My eBay auction:
http://www.ebay.it/itm/Postcards-from-beyond-from-elsewhere-exstrange-/182467504149?hash=item2a7be92815:g:x6AAAOSwWxNYsYC8
Artists' archive: http://exstrange.com/auction-archive/?listby=artist

I am selling “Postcards from beyond, from elsewhere" 2015; a series of
eleven widgets (1st edition of 3) for osx dashboard on Mac (work from Snow
Leopard to Sierra).

What is:
“Postcards from beyond, from elsewhere” is a software-artwork I made on
2015-ongoing; it is constituted by a series of eleven interactive widgets
ready to be installed into the dashboard on Mac.
Concept:
The widgets unfold in a very liminal space/place: between the network and
the computer - between the Internet and the post-Internet. So, the Widgets
are the conjunction between the medium and the message. “Postcards from
beyond, from elsewhere” is the metaphor of a new imaginary and interactive
media that would mediate impossible desires between machine and audience.
These sorts of ‘mystic widgets’ are absorbed into an illusory threshold and
generating meta-dimensions.
Usage:
The user can play (front/back) with the interactive widgets, and in some of
them, by typing into the text fields, so generate crazy dynamic responses.
Installation:
To install the Widgets just double click one by one and they will install
into the Mac osx-dashboard, from Snow Leopard to Sierra.
Shipment:
I will send to the buyer the Widgets as zip file (5 megabyte), directly via
email.
Artwork certificate:
The software artwork “Postcards from beyond, from elsewhere” constituted by
eleven widgets, is certified by the artist as 1st edition of 3. The
certificate will be sent via email as signed PDF within the artwork itself.

[NetBehaviour] "Play cells" by Nicole Cerrone at router gallery Berlin. Curated by Chiara Passa

2017-02-13 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

I am glad to present “ PLAY CELLS” 2016 by the emergent artist Nicole
Cerrone, at router-gallery Berlin. Curated by Chiara Passa.

Play Cells is an ongoing series of digital artworks in form of
animations re-elaborating recorded video-games in order to show how
their visual and interface is iconographic in a deep and often
unconscious way. Every cell representing each one a very specific game
genre, has stripped each video-game of narrative and clear graphics;
those things that are commonly considered essential to define its
intrinsic language. The four abstract animations (Play Cells: CC, D,
NMS and TW), highlight how the suggestion of a specific color
combination, movement or visual input is enough to recall a certain
gaming/real experience, since video games are more than a mere
entertainment product, but a complex language not relegated only to
gamers but part of our cultural heritage. Play Cells, it’s not about
linking every cell to the game it originates from or label it to its
genre, but it is the ability to re-experience intuitively through the
bare language that is so strong rooted in mass culture.

Best regards, Chiara Passa

Nicole Cerrone (Rome, 1990) is an emerging artist graduated from the
Academy of Fine Arts of Rome. She is strongly influenced by the Post
Internet aesthetics and thinks that computer is an extension of her
thought. Play Cells is the result of a research project that Nicole
has produced during a semester, in order to discuss her B.A. degree
thesis with Chiara Passa.

Chiara Passa (Rome, 1973) is a visual artist working and combining
different media and technologies in a wide range production. Since
2009 she run a curatorial net-art project well known as The Widget Art
Gallery.

[NetBehaviour] Extemporary Land Art on Google Earth is updated with four new artworks

2017-02-01 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends and colleagues,

Hope this finds you well.

I am glad to let you know that the Net-Art series on Google Earth
http://www.chiarapassa.it/GoogleEarthExtemporaryLandArt.html I created
on 2013-ongoing, is update with four Augmented Reality new artworks.
Go to check the PDF containing artworks concept/synopsis
http://www.chiarapassa.it/ExtemporaryGoogleLandArt.pdf
All the video demo on Youtube https://www.youtube.com/user/TheChiaraPassa
Kmz file (for G. Earth) are available under request.

From Live Architectures: a series of Net-AR artworks created on Google
Earth, 2013-ONGOING.
Live Architectures is a series of digital and interactive artworks
created over time in a wide-range production developed to reshape the
indoor and the outdoor architecture and environmental places as well
as the ‘digital environment’, transforming it into something alive and
vibrant. This series of site-specific artworks is created and usable
exclusively on Google Earth. Through augmented reality technology the
artwork aims to create an extemporary-temporary virtual land-art,
constructing a sort of "mise en abyme" or “droste effect”, in which an
element shifts the other in depth, merging the Google Earth
environment with the augmented area in order to create a new space.

[NetBehaviour] CAC #5. October 26-28 Paris.

2016-10-24 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear all

I'm glad to forward you the press release, plus links about the 5th
Computer Art Congress [ CAC.5 ] – October 26-28, 2016. MSH Paris Nord.
http://www.computer-art-congress.org/index.php/location/

- PRESS RELEASE -

The Computer Art Congress is an international gathering around art,
science, technology, and design. Its first edition was celebrated in Paris
(2002), then the CAC traveled to Mexico City (2008), then came back to
Paris (2012), and recently was hosted in Rio de Janeiro (2014). In fourteen
years, a community of artists, curators, researchers, scholars, scientists,
designers, students, and professionals has contributed to the domain with
artworks, papers, round tables, workshops and exhibitions, exploring
questions such as “emerging forms of computer art”, “post-digital art”, and
“computer art for all”.

In 2016, the 5th edition of the Computer Art Congress will take place in
Paris, organized by the Citu-Paragraphe research team at University Paris 8
in partnership with the University of Michigan, the University of Hong
Kong, the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and the RAN (Réseaux d’Art
Numérique). The selected topic for this edition is “archiving and
questioning immateriality”.

CAC.5 calls for contributions interested in reflecting on the artwork as a
material object, but also invites a consideration of the complex processes
that surround a work of art. In this respect, the artwork might be regarded
from the potential emotional and or intellectual effects that it might
trigger, whether foreseen or not in advance by the artist. Such effects
could be deployed in small or large scale, from small teams to the entire
world via networked technologies and distributed exhibition spaces.
However, the Internet and electronic devices have proven to be less stable
and long-lasting than they seem. How should one deal with artworks when we
take into account their multidimensional nature (designed for and perceived
in a non stop shifting universe): temporal, spatial, exploratory,
communicational, collaborative? Any inquiry of archival and representation
becomes a complex subject.

CAC.5 believes that such entry points raise problematic issues that also
demand one to interrogate the “Material” supports that give form to an
artwork; the archival methods that artists, curators, collectors and
institutions employ in their practice; the remix and re-cataloging
appropriations that common users and audiences put in place; Furthermore,
we hope these initial questions will push our discussion towards
speculative visions on archiving subjectivity, creating obsolescence, and
preserving/conserving meta-organic relationships (i.e. relations among
technical, social, and individual organs understood as autopoietic
organisms).

The list of topics prefers but is not limited to:
- Archiving Art, Design, Science, and Technology
- Matter and substance of artworks
- Physical and metaphysical effects of artworks
- Space and time of artwork effects
- Perception and uses of artworks
- Speculative scenarios for artwork deployment, distribution and
manifestation
- Art and data
- Digital art and culture.

About the artwork:

"Asteroids at an exhibition” by Jaime De Los Rios

De Los Rios’s wag artwork explores some possibilities of time and space
specifically designed for the WAG virtual scenario, where viewer can
experience a multidimensional environment. In fact, the Widget Art Gallery
is crossed by a 3D cyber-object which doesn't respond to newtonian
physics. This post-object called asteroid, affects to lights and shadows as
sun normally does in tangible world, transforming the WAG reality when it
crosses through the space. De Los Rios explores the evolution of the
image-representation as happened in the renaissance era with the
perspective, when a 3D-image was first realistically simulated in a
painting.
Jaime De Los Rios’s artistic research (mainly thru interactive
installations) focuses on the intersection of systemics science, especially
regarding the mechanisms, rhythms and natural patterns and collective
intelligence.

About the SHOW

Michael C Andrews is visual artist and Assistant Professor at SAIC Chicago.
He is well-known for be part of the fiber art movement. His artistic
research uses epic craft techniques to revamp familiar textile applications.

"I'm filling the WAG room with flirtatious bodies. Each one does a slow
strip tease but instead of removing articles of clothing the bodies are
erotically tuning themselves inside out. There will be five performers in
total over the course of the WAG exhibition. Each one will appeal to a
variety of tastes and desires. It's like a drag show for the bodiless"
(Michael).

[NetBehaviour] OUT "The Cloud 3" by Gretta Low at the Widget Art Gallery

2016-03-06 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

I'm glad to present "The Cloud 3" by Gretta Low.
At the Widget Art Gallery http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag

About the SHOW

The Cloud is probably the most cynically misleading marketing construction
ever devised: the reality being basically the exact opposite of what is
portrayed. The materiality of the internet is an obvious fact that is
nevertheless ignored. Meanwhile, jellyfish are prospering under the new
conditions of our ultra-industrialised, energy greedy, digitalised world.
Like the so-called cloud; beautiful on the surface, transparent but
inscrutable, infinitely proliferating and nearly impossible to kill.

[NetBehaviour] #chiaratalking13

2015-10-23 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends and colleagues,

Hope this finds you well.

Here #chiaratalking13 the hashtag to use to contribute creating "talking in
strings" http://www.chiarapassa.it/talkinginstring.html installation at
@digital_ia15 opening this evening at 8 o'clock in Stettin.
Waiting for your live contribution!

"Talking in strings" develops into a cylindrical space, all around the audience
that create the installation itself, just sending in real time some text via
Twitter.
Also the not present public on site can participate by sending texts from their
remote Internet locations.
Digitalia TWITTER account https://twitter.com/Digitalia_2015

The sentences run a recording system based on feed technology and are
immediately displayed – The texts speedily rotate around the space changing
direction, color, font, and some of them ramble in absence of gravity - The
generated phrases wrapping all around the disoriented people watching at the
texts becoming 'strings', no longer readable. These ‘strings’ slowly disappear
as light bundles or like colored trails left by comets, or as if we are inside
of Newton’s disk...

ABOUT digital_ia:

digital_ia is one of the few events in Poland, which tackles the issue of
new media art. The festival provides a platform for presenting the latest
developments on the borderline of science and art. Artists invited to come
to digital_ia are the most provocative creators of contemporary cyber
culture: visual and digital artists, scientists, media experts, engineers,
visionaries of artificial intelligence.
Every year the event has its motto which becomes the main theme of a given
edition of the festival. In recent years main themes included: techno_body
(2014), bio_contact (2013), more_inter_active! (2012).

This year's exhibition titles re_manufact: PROGRAMME:
http://www.digitalia.art.pl/en/76/programme

The exhibition refers to the past, present and future of technological
solutions and their connections. It also describes the direct relations
influencing contemporary art as well as - in a broader aspect - the
cultural life of societies. The processing of established entities creates
new values and predictions, different perspectives on mundane existence. It
tells the story of the fall of the Old and the rise of the New.

The curators of this year festival is a duo from Berlin: Felix Hardmood
Beck (www.felix-beck.de) and Regina Tetens (www.regina-tetens.de), both
working in the field of arts and design for many years. They are both
strongly connected with ART+COM Studios (www.artcom.de) a Berlin based
studio that designs and develops new media installations and spaces.

[NetBehaviour] “Donna Ingabbiata” by Tomaso Binga at the Widget Art Gallery. July 22 - August 31 2015.

2015-07-21 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

I'm proud to present “Donna Ingabbiata” (caged woman) by Tomaso Binga. July
22 - August 31 2015, at the Widget Art Gallery http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag
Web-App cross-device and platform. Always available the osx-dashboard
version at http://www.chiarapassa.it/TheWidgetArtGallery.html Enjoy the
show!

Have a nice summer!
Best rregards, Chiara Passa

About the SHOW

Binga asked me to make swinging from the ceiling of the WAG her caged head
– icon of deprived liberty, she is fed through the bars by a male hand
offering her an almond seed: symbol of the species’ survival. Binga is
reusing for the WAG her caged head - that was the core in the performance
she made in 1974 - to question the woman's freedom today in relation to new
media. Tomaso Binga is a poet, among the best-known Italian exponent of
sound poetry and performance art.
https://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomaso_Binga

About the WAG

Due to our needs that seem to be increasingly handheld, WAG was born on
2009! The Widget Art Gallery is a mini single art gallery room fitting into
people's pocket. Every month, the WAG hosts a solo digital art exhibition
related to its dynamic site-specific context. So the WAG works both as a
sort of kunsthall showing temporary exhibitions and also as museum
conserving all the past shows inside an online archive that creates a
permanent collection.

[NetBehaviour] OUT "ExploWare Beta 0.0" by David Hanes. June 5 - July 5 2015, at the Widget Art Gallery.

2015-06-05 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

I'm glad to present "ExploWare Beta 0.0" by David Hanes. June 5 - July 5
2015, at the Widget Art Gallery http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag Web-App
cross-device and platform. It's always available the osx-dashboard version
at http://www.chiarapassa.it/TheWidgetArtGallery.html Enjoy the show!

Regards, Chiara Passa

About the SHOW

"ExploWare Beta 0.0" is an animated remix by artist David Hanes made in the
same vein as his “Aware” series http://thxinternetthx.tumblr.com/ in which
online images of gallery documentation become the source material for
digital manipulations. Hanes revises these representations of cultural
objects in anonymous spaces using Photoshop. This version exposes some of

ITALIANS ON THE JOB: Inside and Outside an Anarchival Impulse

Curatorial text by Monica Bosaro

 Introduction

An-archiving GAME is Italian artist Emilio Vavarella’s second project in
his series “The Italian Job,” a collection of conceptual artworks (“jobs”)
that seek to highlight hidden structures behind themes of originality,
legality, artistic authorship, collective processes, digital labor, and the
artist-curator relationship in the age of the Internet. The title is an
homage to the Italian Theory, a political philosophy rooted in collective
processes and theoretical practice.
Specifically, this second project reconsiders the relationship between art
production and reproduction in the era of digital technology, in line with
the never-ending philosophic debate over concepts of “originality” and the
transformation of the “aura” of artworks, as posited in Walter Benjamin’s
famous dissertation The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction
(1936). It focuses on the notion of “job” from the perspectives of the
artist and the curator, and it questions the meaning of artistic production
today. Examining an historical overview of the material-to-immaterial labor
tendency of the last century and the transformation of production into
enjoyable activities, this second project imagines a kind of “game” for
workers (artist and curators) who have become users. These concepts are
intertwined in the project both methodologically (in) and theoretically
(out) before and during the production, as well as in the further
consideration here presented.

The process

For An-archiving game, two curators were invited by the artist to find and
select photographic material drawn from the National Stolen Art File
(NSAF)[i], a free-access archive of stolen artworks hosted by the FBI.
Using both physical sources (libraries, magazines) and digital sources
(Google, online galleries), the curators and the artist established a
shared research methodology in order to find quality reproductions of all
155 stolen photos listed in the NSAF. While the archive did not provide all
the information (images and key data) that the artist and curators needed
to appropriate, it served as the central starting point of the job. This
process inverted the traditional curatorial direction and artist-curator
relationship; the curators were free to make their own selection, and
Vavarella delegated the artistic content of his exhibition.
The resulting project, a new digital artwork, is an animated GIF consisting
of 17 selected photographs temporarily exhibited in various ways. First,
the work will run as an online exhibition in the Widget Art Gallery.

About the exhibition: "The skin" by Alison Bennett, Oct. 16 - Nov. 16 2014.

Alison Bennett is an artist working in photography and digital media
currently completing a ‘creative practice as research’ PhD project at
Deakin University. Her research is framed by a question about the
reconstitution of photographic surface within digital media.
The 'skin' of the Widget Art Gallery gave Bennett the opportunity to
continue her investigation of surface in digital images in a new way.
The photographic image has shifted from a literal surface – a print – to an
interconnected ephemeral surface, a skin-scape: the WAG; reconstituted via
screens and code. Bennett was working with detailed images of human skin as
a metaphor for surface transformed into an effort to 'see under the hood',
to gain insight into how 'surface' operates within digital media.

About the exhibition: Untitled_(WAG) by Susana Mendes Silva

It is an artwork that enquiries you about your own expectations as an art
viewer. It was specifically conceived for the classic white gallery space
of the WAG and intends to address you in an intimate way.

Susana Mendes Silva's work incorporates elements of research and archival
practice that leads to the creation of works whose historical and political
references become visible as exhibitions, actions and performances that
employ a wide variety of media. Her universe considers and reframes
different social contexts without ever losing track of the individual's
uniqueness. Her psychological intimacy and her voice are often the means
for the diffusion and reception of poetic and political messages that call
upon them. Artist website: http://www.susanamendessilva.com

IPhone, IPad and OSX-Dashboard. June 09 - July 10 2014.

About the exhibition:"SAMO© IS DEAD. PRESS PLAY"

In 1978, a wave of graffiti appeared in downtown Manhattan in the form of
wall texts about and or signed by SAMO©.
Thirty six years later, the avatar of Jean-Michel Basquiat* is back with a
vengeance and a spray can, doomed to replay the past, within the spaces of
the WAG, the premier art gallery in Liberty City.

This is not appropriation.

This is GRAND THEFT ART.

* No, not Oscar Murillo. The "real" Basquiat.

COLL.EO is a collaboration between Colleen Flaherty and Matteo Bittanti
established in 2012. COLL.EO currently operates between San Francisco and
the deep end.

[NetBehaviour] Chagall reloaded - A glitch promenade, by Alberto Gulminetti at the Widget Art Gallery.

2013-12-20 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

I'm glad to present "Chagall reloaded - A glitch promenade" by Alberto
Gulminetti at the Widget Art Gallery on IPhone, IPad and OSX-Dashboard.
December 21st - January 21st, 2014. http://www.chiarapassa.it/upcoming.html

About the exhibition: "Chagall reloaded - A glitch promenade".

The WAG space becomes the extended space of the famous Marc Chagall's
painting "The Promenade". The painting is reloaded in a digital key - in an
expanded, surreal and glitch atmosphere. The artwork shows the
deconstruction and the reconstruction of the painting giving it a movement
of autonomy, a new existence, a new poetry, a sort of a "promenade" through

About the WAG:

The “WAG" is a mini 3-dimensional, single room gallery that fits into your
pocket 'cause I've developed it for IPhone, IPod Touch and I Pad. Every
month, directly on your mobile, The “WAG” hosts a solo digital art
exhibition related to the dynamic site-specific contest. So, the Widget Art
Gallery works both as a sort of kunsthall showing temporary
exhibitions and as a permanent collections museum because conserves all the
past exhibitions inside an online archive. For IPhone and IPod touch, just
copy this url http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag/mobile/ in Safari and choose:
“add to home” and the WAG's icon will be saved on your IPhone. Do the same
for IPad but paste this other URL: http://www.chiarapassa.it/wagipad/mobile/
,
or download the widget version for Mac osx dashboard at:
http://www.chiarapassa.it/TheWidgetArtGallery.html
Past exhibitions at: http://the-widget-art-gallery.blogspot.com/

Best regards, Chiara.

[NetBehaviour] FACADE VIDEO FESTIVAL 12-15 | 09 | 2013

2013-09-10 Thread Chiara Passa
FACADE VIDEO FESTIVAL 12-15 | 09 | 2013, Plovdiv.

Program: http://www.facade.arttoday.org/en/2013/program and partecipants:
http://www.facade.arttoday.org/en/2013/participants

URBAN SPACE converts its solely function as a mere backdrop and is about to
be activated. Thus the neglected public space of the Old Town and other
neighbourhoods of Plovdiv is transformed into a vivid place of artistic
practice. Cineasts and random passer-bys form an audience in a unique
setting. The facades themselves start to act, to talk and to move.

VIDEO ART leaves its hermetic and privileged venues as art-house cinemas,
galleries and museums. The facade becomes a new medium of encounter between
artist and recipient, between art and urban environment. The festival would
become a platform where cultural institutions, curators, artists, critics
from all over the world can exchange ideas and experiences in the field of
the contemporary art.

Façade is a project of Art Today Association - Center for Contemporary Art

[NetBehaviour] ZOOart Festival opening July 4th.

2013-06-26 Thread Chiara Passa
Press release : ZOOart, Local art, ZOOincittà, ZOOlive!

ZOOart inaugurates its twelfth edition with a smorgasbord of activities and
events dedicated to the transmission of contemporary art in public spaces,
4 July at 9.30pm at the Fresia Gardens in Cuneo.

The exhibition will again take place over many weeks, bringing life to the
historical centre of Cuneo with its formula of outdoor evening events as
has been proposed since 2002. The Fresia Garden, the old public zoo
transformed into a recreational zone years ago, is the historical location
for the event. It will be the background for installations produced or
adapted for the occasion in a variety of artistic styles.

More than thirty artists from Thursday until Sunday over the first three
weeks of July will present their own artworks, on the theme of the
multiplicity of relations between humans and their natural and cultural
habitat. Performance art featured will involve the direct participation of
visitors, and as the artistic journey develops, collective experimentation
will take place in the streets of the city.

Like each year, the ZOOart program will place an emphasis on the local
artistic context, with the second edition of the project Local art, as well
as attracting an array of international artists.

Local art is a project of the CRC Foundation in collaboration with Art.ur
to support artists from the Province of Cuneo, and will be a key aspect of
ZOOart. Eight young artists selected by a committee made up of Claudio
Cravero, curator of the P.A.V of Turin, representatives of Art.ur and the
CRC foundation will have their artworks displayed during the three weeks of
the exhibition: Paolo Ansaldi, Sara Becchio and Paolo Borghino
(StudioErrante Architecture) con Miriam Fabris e Emanuele Greco, Michela
Depetris, Roberto Fassone, Simone Longo, Vittorio Mortarotti, Alessandro
Quaranta and Enrico Tealdi. The foundation will support the three winners
by purchasing their artworks and promoting their visibility through the
participation in national and international exhibitions.

At the same time, the historical centre of Cuneo will be livened by the
2013 edition of the project ZOOincittà, consolidated by months of work
undertaken by a specifically created workshop which was created in
collaboration with the Order of Architects, the students who participated
in the workshop of Professor Daniele Regis in the Department of
Architecture and Design of the Polytechnic Institution of Turin and the
Association Best Torino. The site specific installations of the theme
“Community” will be located in Via Roma, Via Mondovì, Via Caraglio, Via
Dronero, Via F. Cavallotti, Piazza Audifreddi in Cuneo. They were produced
over the last few months through the ZOOincittà workshops and selected
from hundreds of propositions of young architects, designers and students
within the Cuneo area and will be visible from 4 July to the 31 August.
ZOOincittà has a vast number of participants and was created in
partnership between the Association of Retailers including numerous
businesses from the Piedmont territory and is supported by the Company San
Paolo.

During Thursday and Saturday evenings, in the three weeks of ZOOart from
the 4 – 21 July in the Fresia gardens, the performances and live sets
selected by Art.ur and the independent label Betulla Records will take
place as part of the ZOOlive performances. 6 international performers will
present their works at the ex-zoo or will involve visitors to the garden in
stimulating and poetic collective events.

Finally, the workshop “DlinDlinZumZumPeppé”, part of the ZOObimbi project
will allow children to play with their imagination through the creative
reuse of recycled materials by transforming them into musical instruments.
The workshop ZOObimbi will also include the group theatre-fanfare
coordinated by the French artist Béatrice Bailet, which is inspired by the
fantastical journey in train from Cuneo to Nice, a train line which winds
through the landscapes of the Alps and is currently in risk of being closed.

The workshop will take place in the Fresia Gardens on Thursday and Friday
during ZOOart.

The presentation of ZOOart and the works selected for the exhibition in
public spaces ZOOincittà will take place in the form of a press
conference, Friday 28 June at 5.30pm at the Salone d’Onore (reception hall)
of Cuneo City.

The artists and performers selected for ZOOart 2013 are:
Zara Alexandrova, Grazia Amendola, Paolo Ansaldi , ArriVSCeccarelli,
Béatrice Bailet, Alessandro Boezio, Marco Bonaccolto, Sara Becchio and
Paolo Borghino (StudioErrante Architecture) with Miriam Fabris e Emanuele
Greco, Rada Boukova, Juan Cantizzani, Linda Carrara, Collectif Bancal, Dina

2013-03-05 Thread Chiara Passa
Hi All,

Aharon will be the next artist who will participate in the exhibition
at the WAG during the month of April;) but will be a surprise!
Tomorrow will opens at the WAG for the exhibition of March, another
artist showing a virtual sculpture…
However, I've designed the widget art gallery as a web-app, not as an
app ios-apple-store based. I've already used phonegap to build ios
based apps like: virtual prigione, ideasonair and some others apps on
commission ( V. P. is no more downloadable from the App store because
this year i've chosen to not remove/pay the apple license, because i
would dedicate more at the free web-app). In the case of the WAG I
used html5, css3 and javascript. Regards the AR, I have never used
phomegap for it http://www.wikitude.com/developer/get-started/phonegap
even if I think it's very interesting and should make easier any
projects regards it. Now I'm playing something with layer browser, php
db, and ARToolKit, but is a bit hard to create the php database. I use
ARToolKit library often to build interactive video installations based
on AR under Quartz Composer. Unfortunately, there is no Quartz
Composer engine on the iPhone and the QCRenderer and QCView classes
are missing completely, so I can't use artoolkit under Q.C. for
mobile. Anyway, I'll keep an eye at phonegap for AR ;)

ciaociao, Chiara

WindowZoos: Open Call

About WindowZoos

For the exhibition "Window Zoos", the DAW International is looking for
a few additional artworks that use Augmented Reality and Geo Tagged
images. The project "WindowZoos" is inspired by an image of a car
driving down Singapore’s legendary Orchard Road with its windshield
plastered with stickers of popular cartoon characters. In keeping with
the idea of the car and the experience it provides those inside it, a
concept was developed to transform Orchard Road into a virtual
exhibition by overlaying the entire road with geo-tagged media common
to game technologies and augmented reality systems. Like the car's
windshield, participants' mobile device screens become windows onto
the virtual world that is emerging around us, expanding our notion of
what constitutes public space and how art can be exhibited. Whether
traveling by vehicle or by foot, artworks will augment the "stop and
go" journey down the road adding to the hustle and bustle of the
people and the glare and flash of window displays and neon signs.

Submission Procedure

Thematically, the theme and content of the works is open. We
particularly welcome works that are suited for presentation in
Singapore. All artworks must be finished and submitted and peer
reviewed by the appointed jury. Only the best-finished and publicly
accessible work will be accepted and included in the show. All
accepted works will be included on a comprehensive tour map of the
works will be provided with QR Code keying so that visitors can easily
select the works positioned along the segments of Orchard Road in
Singapore.

Submission deadline: March 17, 2013

[NetBehaviour] Rea McNamara at the WAG - Widget Art Gallery. November 30st - January 2nd, 2013

2012-12-02 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends & colleagues,

I'm glad to share with you the Rea McNamara's performance at the WAG -
Widget Art Gallery on IPhone, IPod touch and IPad form November 30st
until January 2nd, 2013.
Due the ever-changing nature of the performance during this month, I
invite the audience to connect to the WAG every week to see the four
stages of the Rea's show.
To know more about the Widget Art Gallery, I suggest to read my latest
interview on Rhizome
http://rhizome.org/editorial/2012/oct/29/gallery-your-pocket/

Enjoy the show! Best regards, Chiara

About the exhibition: "The Age Issue" by Rea McNamara.

The happy, stylish chaos that is a wonder woman anti-aging from 30 to
60 in a month, form November 30st until January 2nd. Every week, Rea
performs crystal vision interventions of her respective life stages in
the WAG space. Will she ever feel bien dans sa peau? Let's discover,
together! http://www.reamcnamara.com/

About the WAG:

The “WAG" is a mini 3-dimensional, single room gallery that fits into
your pocket 'cause I've developed it for IPhone, IPod Touch and I Pad.
Every month, directly on your mobile, The “WAG” hosts a solo digital
art exhibition related to the dynamic site-specific contest. So, the
Widget Art Gallery works both as a sort of kunsthall showing temporary
exhibitions and as a permanent collections museum because conserves
all the past exhibitions inside an online archive. For IPhone and IPod
touch, just copy this url http://www.chiarapassa.it/wag/mobile/ in
Safari and choose: “add to home” and the WAG's icon will be saved on
your IPhone. Do the same for IPad but paste this other URL:
http://www.chiarapassa.it/wagipad/mobile/, or download the widget
version for Mac osx dashboard at:

Sound and Independent Culture. It is a slow growing project; each
month we add new features and work. We will continue to commission new
work for basic.fm that will sit in the background and play between
timetabled & regular shows

[NetBehaviour] "Talking in string" released 2011, OUT NOW!

2012-05-30 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends,

I'm glad to share with you my generative video installation "Talking
in string", time variable.

Best regards, Chiara

"Talking in string" is a generative video installation inspired by the
'Rotor', famous Luna Park rotating carousel. "Talking in string"
develops into a cylindrical space around the audience that create the
installation itself in real time by sending text messages via Twitter.
Also the not present public on site can participate as well by sending
messages by their remote Internet locations. The sentences run a
recording system are displayed immediately – The texts speedily rotate
around the space, changing direction, color, font, and some of them
ramble in absence of gravity - The generated phrases, dissolving and
wrapping themselves around disoriented people who are watching as
texts become 'strings', no longer readable. These ‘strings’ slowly
disappear as light’s bundles surrounding the body of the spectators
like colored trails left by comets or as if we were inside of Newton’s
disk.

[NetBehaviour] MELODRAMZ press release

2012-05-08 Thread Chiara Passa
Sorry for crossposting and thanks for sharing!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Toronto art critic David Balzer gets melodramatic with the launch of
his first short-fiction e-book, containing illustrations by a roster
of acclaimed international artists.
April 24, 2012: Art critic David Balzer—a contributor to The Globe and
Mail, The Believer and Artforum, among others—launches his first
collection of short fiction, Contrivances, on Friday, May 11, at 8pm
at The White House Studio Project, 277.5 Augusta Ave., in Toronto’s
Kensington market.  Brooklyn-based online fiction magazine and e-book
imprint Joyland are the publishers—and they’ve approached the project
with unconventional panache.

“This is the best-looking e-book we’ve ever seen,” says co-publisher
Brian Joseph Davis, referring to the eleven different artist
illustrations in the book, one for each story. Marcel Dzama, Oliver
Husain, Margaux Williamson and  Janet Werner are some of the artists
who have contributed work.

The stories in Contrivances are dark, whimsical melodramas—influenced
by Victorian lit, Lifetime movies, fan fiction, Old Hollywood and
art-world gossip.

MELODRAMZ: A Night of Contrivances is the name of the party—an
inventive approach to launching an e-book "in real life." An art
exhibition of work in and related to the book, co-curated by Balzer
and Daniel Gallay, is on view for one night only. In the tradition of
Ronald Firbank and Pedro Almodovar, literary drag queens and kings do
readings throughout the night—including Regina the Gentlelady (Light
Fires/Gentleman Reg). After the readings, there’s a dance party with
DJs Kevin Ritchie (Big Primpin), Luis Jacob (Love Saves the Day) and
reeraw (Sheroes), who curates wall-projected gif-art of classic
melodramas, on view throughout the evening. Admission is $8 and
includes a copy of Contrivances, downloadable through a QR-coded
postcard.

Full list of exhibiting artists: Marcel Dzama (NYC), Oliver Husain
(Toronto), Margaux Williamson (Toronto), Sholem Krishtalka (Toronto),
Janet Werner (Montreal), Alexandra Flood (London, UK), Emily Stoddart
(NYC), Derek Aubichon (Toronto), Alison Fleming (Montreal), Vanessa
Rieger (Toronto).

Full list of drag performers: Regina the Gentlelady (Light
Fires/Gentleman Reg), Sean O’Neill and Liz Peterson (Events in Real
Time), Lauren Bride, Bojana Stancic.

Full list of gif artists: Helen Adamidou (Barcelona), Gaby Cepeda

[NetBehaviour] WAG's plan displacement - Una galería de arte en el bolsillo

2012-03-01 Thread Chiara Passa
El Pais-Madird: 'Una galería de arte en el bolsillo'
http://blogs.elpais.com/arte-en-la-edad-silicio/2012/03/una-galeria-de-arte-en-el-bolsillo.html

"WAG's plan displacement", by Chiara Passa. 'exhibit consented ruin',
Centre del Carme Valencia 2012. opening: 20h00m/01.03.12 . Schedule:
10h00m-20h00m/02.03.12-03.03.12

The 'WAG's plan displacement', is a short gif-animation on the concept
of architectural device’s ruin. The smartphone, bursts and destructs
itself, showing its domestic/intimate side: the processor’s
architecture. Nowadays, it is the architecture’s concept most close to
our behaviors, because we’re always manipulating electronic/digital
devices. So, the electronic architecture is a metaphor of our digital
time. http://www.chiarapassa.it/publicart.html

[NetBehaviour] Rollin Leonard at the WAG - Widget Art Gallery. Dec 07 until Jan 08-2012

2011-12-07 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends,

I'm glad to share with you the Rollin Leonard's exhibition at the WAG
- Widget Art Gallery, for IPhone, IPod and IPad. Dec. 07 until Jan. 08-2012.

Hope you'll enjoy it, Kind Regards, Chiara

About the exhibition: 'Greek latex bust'

Nearly a decade ago I was visiting the Cleveland Art Museum when I
wandered into a room of Greek and Roman stone busts.  Nearby there
were obnoxious, neoclassical busts of US presidents. I had the idea to
make replicas of these important-looking artifacts out of latex and
make them jiggle with an internal motor. I never got around to doing
that, but after looking at WAG's space I was reminded of my plan to
animate the busts. This project is the outcome of that idea.

[NetBehaviour] Virtual Prigione & Live Sculpture

2011-11-16 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends,

thanks for continuing to download my IPhone APP "Virtual Prigione"
http://itunes.apple.com/it/app/v-prigione/id434571770?mt=8
I'm also glad to share with you “Live sculpture”, an interactive
video-sculpture project beside the "Virtual Prigione".
"Live sculpture" is an interactive video-performance, where the body
of the viewer is fully participating. The user, in fact, when in front
of the web-cam installed into the exhibition’s environment, is
scanned, filmed in real time, then revived and reshaped in a human
scale video projection, as a three-dimensional marble sculpture. This
new 3-D live image of the viewer-sculpture is entirely built of an
ever-changing interactive mesh, tuning into and reacting to body
movement, environment light and speed of the spectator’s movement.

About the exhibition: 'Operatic Narcoleptic'

Making found gif collages is akin to entering a gargantuan stream of
moving images, extracting dynamic pieces that are sexy, violent,
poignant, & hilarious and repurposing them for my own mysterious
needs.  I can lay claim to the choices and juxtapositions I make, as
well as the distortions and alterations, but not to the sources
themselves. Those are generally extracted from news footage, nature
broadcasts, youTube uploads, Hollywood movie footage etc.  It's sort
of like an art of participation that illuminates to me how I define
myself as an artist, making images amongst many many image producers
that don't necessarily position themselves as artists, (yet manage to
engage me fully with their creations.)

About the exhibition ongoing now inside the WAG:

"Happening Soon".
The waiting is action itself: it's a movement aiming to something that
is going to happen, nobody knows what its going to be. The waiting is
the representation of art, without the moral responsibility of what we
are waiting for: the artist proposes an archetype of what happens into
art galleries. She got rid of everything but herself, creating a
paradox. According to Kant, aesthetic is finality without ending:
while the waiting has an ending, here, thanks to the loop, it becomes
endless. Roberta Lisca works as a conceptualizer, robertalisca.com.

Ideasonair.net is a web based project that serves digital artists. The
site promotes artistic ideas created by me in various fields,
especially for digital art. Therefore: “Dear artists,
poets, architects, designers, critics, curators and ‘lovers of the
trade’, if you are short of ideas this is the site for you!” Here, the
ideas from ‘Hyperuranium’ have landed and found a place or better a
virtual factory. Ideasonair.net creates for you a lot of different
ideas ready to be developed. Ideasonair has a particular theory about
ideas and how we perceive them: “ideas are in the air and the earth is
spinning around connecting with these ideas at various places. So an
identical idea could land or be had in New York and Rome at the same
time”. This site could be considered somewhat like entropy. It puts in
order and gives shapes to ideas. This online factory is continually
updated to always give artists new ideas.
Ideas appear in the site in three different stages. The first stage is
purely preliminary and the idea is just a clue in their primordial
state, maybe not yet able to be developed. The second stage we can
call (as Freud would call it) the ‘daydream’ stage. This is the stage
in which the various elements that constitute an idea come in contact
and come to realization. The third stage deals with the complete idea
ready to be developed. The three stages are marked on title by their
respective colours: red when the idea is in the
initial stage, orange when it is in the ‘daydream’ stage and green
when it is ready to work.
Finally artist doesn't need to fight for any ‘copyright’, ‘copyleft’,
‘copydown’ !!!
Ideasonair is a conceptual artwork in progress that puts in evidence
the concept of ‘open artwork’ getting ideas and waits for their
realization. Moral of the fable: The ideas are the artwork and they
can be transmitted… just like the thought!

[NetBehaviour] "Tales form space" OUT NOW!

2011-06-24 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends,

I'm glad to share with you my latest artwork: "Tales from space", a
generative video-installation based on the theory of the quantum
mechanics.

"Tales from Space" develops in a hollow space or under a dome. The
viewer is surrounded by the projections and listens to short sentences
about the concept of multidimensional-space. The words, generating a
barrage of random points, blacks holes, micro-flash-dimensions and
macro forms of light that intersect each other; envelope themselves,
double back, widen and shrink, depending on the spectrum modulation of
the sound narrative that is based on the concept of quantum mechanics.

[NetBehaviour] Sculpt me, if you have an IPhone!

2011-05-09 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends,

I'm glad to let you know, is available the IPhone's APP of my
interactive video sculpture: "The virtual Prigione”. To download the
free APP, just connect your IPhone to the Apple Store of your country
and search for "V Prigione". Links:
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/v-prigione/id434571770?mt=8&ls=1 (US
Store), http://itunes.apple.com/it/app/v-prigione/id434571770?mt=8
(Ita store).

Concept

“The virtual Prigione” APP for IPhone, is an interactive portrait
video-sculpture inspired by the concept of  the latest “unfinished”
sculptures of Michelangelo, named “Prigioni.” The App is dynamic and
interactive, the user can sculpt it just using the finger as a chisel.
"The virtual Prigione" represents various states of being. The
spectator can choose to liberate the sculpture from the marble (using
chisel as -) and its dependence material, so the body-statue
sublimates and the marble becomes virtual idea. Or the user can also
choose to imprison the statue into the marble (using chisel as +),
bringing it to the primordial state where the
mass has a simple geometric figure.

[NetBehaviour] "Charting Art's Thoughts" OUT now!

2010-05-23 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friends,

I'm glad to share with you my last net based artwork: "Charting Art's
Thoughts", 2010

"Charting Art's Thoughts" is a spontaneous neuronal network of
thoughts. Thus, thoughts about digital art from ‘Hyperuranium’ ;-)
have landed on a virtual map. The short (160 characters as twitter
displays messages) art's thoughts are generated from Twitter posts
that match a database of keywords related to art . At every page's
reload, the earth’s map refreshes itself and tracks new words and
phrases. Charting Art's Thoughts is a circuit where random thoughts on
new media art are shared on a map! This map is inspired from the
ideasonair.net’s theory that says: “Ideas are in the air and the earth
is spinning around, connecting with these ideas at various places. So
an identical idea could land or be had in New York and Rome at the same time.”

[NetBehaviour] Meta Motus - interactive video installation OUT NOW!

2010-04-17 Thread Chiara Passa
Dear friend and colleagues,

I'm glad to share with you my new interactive video installation "Meta
Motus", just out now on my website.

“Live Architecture” is a series of site-specific interactive video
installations I thought of and made in order to reshape the
architecture in public places, as well as interior environments, into
something vibrant and lively. The “Meta Motus” installation,
developing all around the viewer, shows a dynamic atmosphere that is
in one continuous transformation. "Meta Motus" reacts to the
spectator’s actions and movements that they make freely throughout the
space. Those movements are captured from a camera tracking action and
translated on the x, y and z coordinates, in order to redesign the
whole ambient with various patterns.
