Objet : [NOTICE] Apache NetBeans 18 release candidate 4 available for testing

The fourth release candidate build for Apache NetBeans 18 is available (links
below). This will be our final release candidate unless high/critical priority
issues or pull requests are flagged. Please kick the tyres well over the coming
week or so! This includes testing building from source and other release checks.

This is a minimal update to fix a critical issue with Maven artefact generation
prior to moving towards release -
https://github.com/apache/netbeans/releases/tag/18-rc4

Please help with testing, and file issues in GitHub as necessary -

https://github.com/apache/netbeans/issues

If you're a committer adding an issue, or helping triage an issue (please do!),
add the milestone and/or priority labels as appropriate.
Use priority:high for should be fixed before release, priority:critical for
must be fixed before we can release.

**The following rules are applied to pull requests from now until release:**

Please read the full info on how we manage pull requests to delivery at least
once! :-) -
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Pull+requests+for+delivery

PR's intended to be included in the 18 release :
 - Limited to fixes (link an issue if there is one, or provide justification in
description)
 - Label with priority:high or priority:critical as appropriate.
 - Base on the delivery branch.
 - Mark with NB18 milestone.
 - Will be merged by the release team.

PR's with features for a future release :
 - Base on the master branch.
 - Will be reviewed and merged in the usual way.
 - If possible stay away from big refactoring.
 - If possible do not overlap with fixes for 18 (delivery will be merged to
master weekly).

RE: [NOTICE] Apache NetBeans 13 release candidate 1 available for testing

2022-01-21 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi,

I put this out dev because of some limitation explained below(1):

 There is a staging repository
https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachenetbeans-1094
This is to check for your mavenized platform with the new nbjavac dep .

(1) I reach the 25000 limit per ip per 24 on staging and get banned. So only
use if you have subset of clusters in your apps.

12.0 beta 2 maven.indexer

2020-03-26 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi,

I found an issue https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-4071 during
maven usage for creating platform module within NetCAT test.

I've done some investigation but I cannot resolve why some elements are
missing in the plexus lookup that help indexing.

Anyone encounter this on dev or beta ?

I have no clue how to solve this

12.0 beta 2 available

2020-03-25 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi NetCAT folks,

A beta2 is available to test for NetCAT program. Should work for maven
testing now. Groovy updated widlfly added, maybe enterprise area to be
retested. I hope we are not too PR accept crazy.

https://builds.apache.org/view/M-R/view/NetBeans/job/netbeans-TLP/job/netbea
ns/job/release120/7/artifact/dist/netbeans/

If PR are too sensitive to be merged for 12.0 it would be nice to put
milestone 12.1.

If it's ok for others on maven side, we may cc this mail to dev ml.

Best Regards

Eric

RE: 12.0 Beta available

2020-03-17 Thread Eric Barboni
Thank for the finding,

The fix is here
https://github.com/apache/netbeans/pull/2029

As we need synchro with master a PR was created in this intention (a direct
commit was done to hide a module)
https://github.com/apache/netbeans/pull/2028

To allow testing we could create a beta11 (not 2) by merging pr 2029 and 2028
Non impacted tester can stay on beta1,
Blocked tester can go to beta11 and do further finding not having too wait
beta2.

That's up to us.

Best Regards
Eric

Apache NetBeans 11.3-beta3 available

2020-02-12 Thread Eric Barboni
Dear Apache NetBeans community,

The third beta build for Apache 11.3 is available.

Two PR that give the complete picture of what was added for this milestone.

https://github.com/apache/netbeans/pull/1944

https://github.com/apache/netbeans/pull/1913

A rough sum up of the changes:

Lots of UI fix

More FlatLaf,

More cleanup for jdk 14

More gradle project fix

For windows users:

A revert to WindowsNotifier for windows filestystem

There is no critical / blocker associated to release 11.3 except this

https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-3763.

This is maven related I guess and very specific to multiple artefacts
classifier for on artefacts. No very frequent IMHO, maybe we can put it to
12.0

Yes, I remember this was skipped in NetCAT for 9 because things were missing on
the infrastructure end. Be good to ensure we have this working in 10. But do
we have everything required to link to now?

RE: Tribe leaders to report any 9.0 blockers by 4/16

2018-04-17 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi,
Sorry for the delay, We were not able to have a meeting (no answer for 2
weeks)
The only official NetCAT issue blocker to maven is :
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-568 But seems very specific to
the related archetype. (Lots of other archetype are working well) Maybe making
only critical will pass

On the mavenized platform (if this is part of the release) we have more trouble

-- Apache NetBeans artefact (SNAPSHOT or RELEASE) are not available
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NETBEANS-467
-- plugin and archetype will need release and then Apache NetBeans need
upgrade if we want to be jdk 10 compatible

Hi Jirka,

I am trying to test the NetBeans update using the Java EE and Maven plugins. I
am unable to do so, unfortunately. I may be doing something wrong, but I've
installed the NetBeans update, which I have confirmed (via
"About") is running on 1.8.0_171. I attempt to install the Java EE Base plugin
and my Maven web projects are showing "project problems". When clicking on the

Hi Eric,

I think it is a very good idea to split that very long test spec into three
according to technology!

Postponing Maven+JavaEE testing sounds good to me. However, the NetBeans
platform is in fact a part of this current version of the IDE. If there are any
reasons why the Maven+NetBeans Platform tests are not currently able to be run,
please do let us know!

I know.

Should we postpone the javaEE and mavenized platform test ?

RE: [maven] Test specs split

2018-03-12 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi Luca,

Nice work. Maybe we can do a major update and move javaEE to a specific part
of the test spec. (we can also do that for platform specific part). It may
simplify the workflow during full test with a few duplication as you mention.

Eric

Hi,

I've gone ahead and added some labels, the end result is less than optimal
IMHO, since now the sanity testing label is outdated, cause it has a mix of se
and ee tests, and also points 3 and 7 of the specification are now marked as
javaee, since they require EE projects as a base, these should either be
duplicated to use both SE and EE projects; otherwise we will lose coverage of
the EE related bits, starting the EE server for debugging and checking also the
web resources for refactoring, or we should keep them in the SE label and add a
note for netcat 9 to use an SE project instead of the EE one and skip/ignore EE
bits if necessary.

Regards
Luca.

Obviously I've forgot to add that the EE label is already there so only the SE
should be added assuming synergy cannot run tests with labels in exclude mode.

Hi Eric,

I've started quick reviewing the mentioned test cases, I also expected nothing
or almost nothing would have changed, but there is one thing that bothers me,
practically everything relating to java EE is out of scope for this first
apache run, so some of the cases cannot be covered unless the java EE modules
are pulled from the old repository.

I do not think removing these tests to be wise, since they'll have to be
rewritten as soon as the EE bits are pulled back in, on the other hand running
a full test suite without pulling the EE bits out would involve a lot of
skipping on the tester side, to avoid this maybe we could add a SE,EE label to
the existing cases to drive the testing during the full run, do you think this
would be enough, or it would be better to separate the maven test specification
in 2 separate sections SE and EE, it would require a lot more time compared to
setting only labels on the existing tests, but it would have the added benefit
of splitting up this pretty large test specification in 2 potentially more
manageable ones, con would be that something would most probably have to be
duplicated.

Unfortunately today I've had less time than what I expected so could not cover
much of the specification, but I do hope to have a little more time tomorrow so
I might be able to at least add labels.

Let me know what you think,

Regards,
Luca

Hi Luca,

Sure you can update the wiki [1]. Put the section you do also in the wiki.

As far as I know there is no major change done yet on Netbeans 9 for maven
side except jdk 9 support.

Eric

RE: Test Spec Review Starting Today!

2018-03-07 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi Hermien and all,

I am concerned on some global issue on synergy. I'am not sure what should be
done on this topic

Test specs> Test case Report issue ↗ link to old Oracle NetBeans bugzilla
system which is read-only.

Test specs > Test Case
Issues related to test case are link to Oracle too. Should we relink to jira
and migrate the issue used in synergy to Apache Jira ?

Objet : Test Spec Review Starting Today!

Hi all,

The first task of NetCAT 9.0 is starting today - test spec review!

As you probably already know, we manage all of our test specs (and test
runs) on Synergy [1]. This is now hosted on an Apache VM. :)

[1] http://netbeans-vm.apache.org/synergy/client/app/#/specifications

So today we are calling on all tribes to help with reviewing of these test
specs for NetCAT 9.0.

1. Tribe leaders, can you please check with your tribe members who still need
access to edit the wiki, and let us know? We are going to keep track of the
work using the Wiki, so everybody will need access.

2. Tribe leaders, please discuss with your tribe members how to divide the
work. On the wiki page [2], I have added direct links to each of the tribes on
Synergy, so that you can see the current list of test specs.

[2]
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/NetCAT+9.0+Test+Spec+Reviews

3. Once you have decided how to split the work, please indicate who is working
on what on the wiki page [2]. I have added a task for myself in the RCP tribe
as an example. :)

4. If there are completely new features in this release (have a look at [3]),
please consider writing brand new test spec(s) for that, and also divide up the
work.

[3]
https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/NETBEANS/Apache+NetBeans+9.0+New+and+Noteworthy

5. If there are only minor updates to be made (spelling, grammar, formatting,
missing steps and so on), then just update the current version of the test
spec. If there changes that would make the test spec incompatible with previous
versions of the IDE, please create a copy of the test spec for NetBeans 9.0
before updating it. This usually happens when there is a change in the way that
something works.

6. While you are updating a test spec, also have a look at any comments that
may have been made during the 8.2 full testing. [4]

[4]
http://netbeans-vm.apache.org/synergy/client/app/#/assignment_comments/24

We are planning for beta testing to start on 19 March, so it would be great if
all test spec updates could be completed before then.

Hermien Pellissier and Jiří Kovalský
NetCAT 9.0 coordinators

RE: [maven] Test specs split

2018-03-07 Thread Eric Barboni
Hi Jirka,

For the maven NetBeans platform part of testing we will need to get the maven
artifact generated for the current version of Apache Netbeans according to git
and not to the last hg.netbeans.org mercurial repository.
We have the previous artefact in this http://bits.netbeans.org/nexus/ for
version 8.2 and previous.
