Option Icon 322 works -- MANY thanks
Fedora 13 with NM 0.8.1-0 & kernel 2.4.6.33.5-112 connected my Option on first try! Very happy to have 3G option Icon 322 working in Linux. After several months, several distros & too many attempts to make work, it works. Fedora 13 installed in 2 Thinkpads with Atheros 5214 cards does 802.11b OK & fails to do 802.11g. So far I have found no b to g switch, no clues why it will not do g mode. Is there anything I have to do to get it recognized? I also haven't been able to find any good guides on setting it up. I'm running Ubuntu Karmic right now. On Sierra's site there is a link(http://www.sierrawireless.com/en/Support/knowledgebase.aspx) in the knowledge base which says: "**Note: Ubuntu 9.10 distribution is not supported with Sierra Wireless modems. Ubuntu 9.04 distribution is still supported with all Sierra Wireless modems listed in this KB article. We expect the issue to be fixed in Ubuntu 10.4." If you require Ubuntu 9.10 and Sierra isn't working get a Novatel. -- John I am sure Sierra knows better than I, even so, Ubu 9.10 connected both my 875U & 885U Sierra modems to ATT with minimum effort. Simply boot 9.10 Live CD, see it offer to install modem, click 5 times, then watch NM connect. I gave a few Ubuntu 9.1 CDs to ATT stores for use as trouble shooting tool. Option Icon 322 or ATT Quicksilver 3G modem
Each of my 3 computers lock when Option Icon 322 is plugged. Latest version of Kubuntu does same. Open log viewers show last 10 new lines of log are not recorded to disk due to system failure. Power switch is only way to restore computer operation after modem is plugged. Latest 10.04 kubuntu also needs power off after modem is plugged. People seem to have isolated cause of problem here in Nov 09 but I find no record of problem being fixed. http://www.pharscape.org/forum/index.php/topic,802.0.html I think I know enough to see they have determined problem is HSO driver not cooperating with modem manager. AC860 & AC875 Sierra aircards not supported.
I wrote in error that Sierra AC860 & AC875 air cards were supported by NM & Linux. They were & now are not. Both cards continue to work well on Windiz XP thru ATT. Both fail in current distros of Linux. I know not how these cards fail using old versions of Linux that worked fine when current. Kubuntu 7.04 & 7.1 both worked with the 860 & both now fail. I have wasted several CDs & hours installing old versions of Fedora, Ubu & Kubu that used to work with these 2 cards. Ubu & Kubu 9.04 do not install the 860 and find the 875 "not 3G capable". Capable or not, it does > 2.8 Mb/S download using XP. Sierra Wireless wrote that I should install driver 1.72 to replace 1.32 in current kernel. That does not make sense since I have not installed a Sierra driver since kubu 7.1. I can buy another 885U to replace lost 885U Sierra but I am not happy to see 2 year old equipment abandoned, not even usable as spares. -- God Bless You, Eric Lee Elliott Read the Holy Bible, ___ NetworkManager-list mailing list NetworkManager-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/networkmanager-list

Add Sierra AC875 to list (2417C-AC875) Add Sierra 885U to list (2417C-C885) I have both working well with Ubuntu 9.04 & Xubuntu. Kubuntu fails both and 802.11 in two very different computers. New to list
Hello, Where can I find a trouble shooting sequence for NM? What version of NM should I be testing? I want to help, know little and have experienced both kppp & NM working and failing since early Oct 7. I have for use in testing: Cellular modems Sierra AC860 & AC875. A Sierra 885USB is in mail to me. Lenovo notebook with Intel 945 chipset . Gateway MX6447 with AMD & ATI RS485M chipset. Shuttle with AMD 64 & Nvidia chipset can also be used for testing only the 885 for lack of a PC card slot. Each computer has several 20 GB partitions for install of Linux. Last week, daily builds of Ubuntu, Kubuntu & Xubuntu would not work with 860 or 875 and Xubuntu did not work with Ethernet, 802 or cellular data cards. With kernel 2.6.14 only 802 & 875 work but if NM 0.7 is allowed to install the AC875 is found not to be a broadband device. Much of what I have read is outdated or conflicts with what I see when running same commands. If I know where to find a testing method or sequence, I would be happy to test Ethernet, 802 & cellular on each computer. Where can I find a trouble shooting sequence for NM? Or how else can I help?
