Re: NetworkManager vs system-config-network
I am on Fedora 8 (*after* upgrading from Fedora 7 (after upgrading from Fedora 6)). I am using NM version 0.7. Checking the two logs (yours and mine), it seems to me that the beginning is pretty similar. They differ once stage 2 of 5 starts (maybe because of encryption at your end and no encryption at mine?) I have also checked the logs on my second laptop (fresh Fedora 8 installation) and the log is identical to the one that I have posted. How does the network script in init.d affect NM? Running /sbin/service network status on both laptops resulted in the same output (which seems fine to me): Configured devices: lo eth0 wlan0 Currently active devices: lo wifi0 wlan0 Cheers, Firas. NetworkManager vs system-config-network
Hi, I have been working in peace with NetworkManager for some time, after having a couple of problems with it. Today we had issues with the power supply (the AP was affected by these, but not the laptop), and after things settled NetworkManager does not want to connect anymore. I have disabled all security on the wireless network but NetworkManager still does not want to connect. Activating wlan0 through system-config-network, on the other hand, gets me connected in seconds. I attached some logs below. I have a second laptop that was off during the power issues (both laptops with Atheros, Fedora 8, and ath_pci module), and that second laptop connects through NetworkManager with no problem (both with security on and off on the wireless network). I suspect that I need to reset something, but no clue what that is. Would be thankful for any ideas / tips. Thanks, Firas. iwlist scan * Mode:Master Frequency:2.422 GHz (Channel 3) Quality=32/70 Signal level=-63 dBm Noise level=-95 dBm Encryption key:off Bit Rates:1 Mb/s; 2 Mb/s; 5.5 Mb/s; 11 Mb/s; 6 Mb/s 9 Mb/s; 12 Mb/s; 18 Mb/s; 24 Mb/s; 36 Mb/s 48 Mb/s; 54 Mb/s Extra:bcn_int=100 /val/log/messages ** Dec 2 11:15:14 localhost NetworkManager: Activating device wlan0 Dec 2 11:15:14 localhost NetworkManager: Activation (wlan0) Stage 1 of 5 (Device Prepare) scheduled... NetworkManager keeps asking for secret phrase
Hi, I am trying to connect to my WAP wireless network and NetworkManager keeps asking for the secret phrase without connecting. Is there anything specific that I need to do to stop this and make the connection? Thanks in advance, Firas. -- Firas Swidan, PhD Founder and CEO Olymons: Blessing Machines with Vision (TM) http://www.olymons.com ___ NetworkManager-list mailing list NetworkManager-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/networkmanager-list
Re: NetworkManager keeps asking for secret phrase
What a typo. It is WPA. I have managed to solve the problem accidentally after a struggle. It seems that the F8 ships with the new open source ath5k drivers for Atheros chipset. I was trying to install and configure madwifi for the new kernel as I did till now, and it seems that it conflicted the new ath5k driver. Bottom line for whoever is having problems connecting with Atheros based wireless chipset after upgrading to Fedora 8: Remove the madwifi package (su -c "yum remove madwifi kmod-madwifi kmod-madwifi-`uname -r` madwifi-kmdl-`uname -r`") and NetworkManager might work perfectly! Thanks for your efforts and help. Firas.
