yes... actually what was happening was the icon was hidden... and still
is... :(

I removed the Notification Area and added it again in the middle of the
top panel

but stangelly, after logout-login, even in the middle, the icon is
almost invisivle... only a vertical stripe of 1 or 2 pixels width is
visible...

something like:

|| oo
||  oo
||   o
||
||
||
||
---

the o's being the visible part of the nm-applet icon !!!

:)

I don't know why this happens; but it's consistent; I created a new user
and did logout-login and the icon gets hidden or something cuts it; I
remove the notification bar, I add it again, and it's ok; then I
logout-login and it's cut again :P

This is Edubuntu-10.04

but the visible part is large enough to allow a minimum interaction; BTW
the red (o) shutdown, restart, etc button also goes missing :P

a mess...

nm-applet gone from panel

2010-11-30 Thread Joao Ferreira gmail
Hello,

A friend of mine showed me a computer in which the nm-applet control
icon (top-right corner) does not appear.

It used to be there before but - he does not know why - it's gone.

I verified the options in "System -> Preferences -> Startup
Applications" and the nm-applet option is correctly selected.

I can not understando why it does not appear. We even tried to create a
fresh new user and the applet appears just good for this fresh user.

Can anyone point how to restore the nm-applet to the right place for
that user ?

Thank you.

help with WPA2 Enterprise

2010-09-07 Thread Joao Ferreira gmail
Hello all,

I'm not being able to connect to my company WPA2 Enterprise using
Network-Manager.

At home I have a router with "WPA & WPA2 Personal" and I can associate
just fine.

But, at work, we have a wifi network with "WPA & WPA2 Enterprise" and
I'm unable to associate.

I'm using the following settings in the NM GUI configuration:
- Wireless Security   : WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
- Authentication : Protected EAP (PEAP)
- Anonymous identity : tried blank and my username
- CA certificate : tried (None) and the company's certificate
- PEP Version : tried Automatic and Version 0
- Inner authentication: MSCHAPv2
- Username: my username
- Password: my password

NM is unable to connect. I've double-checked these settings with the
networks departement people. All seems to be correct.

System is Debian/squeeze, NM 0.8.1-2+b1, wpasupplicant 0.6.10-2

See extract of /var/log/syslog bellow.

I'dd very much appreciate any help.

Thank you.

Hi Jirka, please see below the informations/logs you suggested

I used NetworkManager "(mouse right button menu) -> Edit Connections...
-> Mobile Broadband" dialog Wizard to configure the connection.

Then I plug the modem in and I select the "Enable Mobile Broadband"
option (mouse right button menu).

Then usualy the icon changes to a status like "I'm trying" (2 small
circles and a thingye circling around). After a while the icon returns
to the normal "disconnected" status. Seems like it is trying to obtain
an IP address but it dos not succeed.

more below...

I use Debian Squeeze; (had same problem in Lenny); from dpkg:
- modemmanager 0.4+git.20100624t180933.6e79d15-1
- network-manager  0.8.1-1

see logs in the end of this e-mail... these logs correspond to 2

my modem does not work on NM

2010-08-25 Thread Joao Ferreira gmail
Hello,

I've been usign Network-Manager for some years now and I love it. I use
it for Wired, Wireless and PPTP VPNs.

But... I was never able to use my 3G modem properly. Recently I updated
to Debian squeeze, with NM 0.8.1-1, but the modem still does not work.
It's a Huawei E220 (Portuguese provider Vodafone).

((( I have tested with a Globetroter modem from a friend and it works
just fine ))). So I still find NM a great piece of help. But it does not
work with my 3G modem.

So... what can I do to make it work ? There must be something...

I know the modem works because I use "betavine
VMCCDFL" (https://forge.betavine.net) software and it simply works. But
I really would like to use NM only. When I use betavine, NM does not
detect the conenction and does not let me boot the VPN
connections :( ... can I make it detect the connection somehow ?

Cheers
jmf
