Re: Fonts used in systray applet
On 2012-06-15 Dan Williams d...@redhat.com wrote: My question: Which fonts are used for the tool tip that appears while hovering over the systray icon and in the “Available” list? The fonts used depend on Pango and freetype. The applet simply attempts to convert the SSID (which *isn't* a string, but a random 32-byte array) into something readable and then sends it to Gtk, which draws it using Pango and freetype. So the issue might be either the applet's conversion of the random 32-byte array of the SSID into something possibly readable, or it could be your font. What language is this SSID supposed to be in, and what is your LANG environment variable set to? Thanks for the explanation. The SSID I connect to is Cyrillic, the other SSIDs contain probably chinese or japanese (I don't care about those, and I assume that's a font issue). Other European SSIDs (Swedish and Polish special characters) display fine. LANG=en_GB.UTF-8 The applet checks LANG on the hope that the SSID might be encoded in that language. My system language is not at all related to the one used in the wireless networks. But I agree, in general it would have been a good guess. One thing to check; if you run: nmcli dev wifi list iface wlan0 do the SSIDs print out OK there? nmcli dev wifi list displays the Cyrillic SSIDs perfectly. I didn't know that command. That's a simple way to verify that I'm connected to the correct network. I will use that as a work around, it's better then to count the number of squares. Fonts used in systray applet
Hi, I connect to several networks that SSID contain characters that are not present in the used font and I see only squares with some numbers. I'd like to change this. This happens when I hover over the network manager icon in the systray and the information bubble pops up: Wireless network connection '□□ 1' active: □□ (82%) and also in the “available” list when I am *not* connected to a network. When I am connected, the entry is bold and I see the correct name. I assume that the bold font has a better coverage then the regular font. Network-manager 0.8.992 and wpasupplicant
Hi everybody, I was trying to upgrade to network-manager from git (release 0.8.992). I installed all the dependency and started network manager to activate my wifi connection. I didn't expect to work out immediately and in fact network manager does not connect to my AP. Then I tried to debug and the first thing I saw is that there is an error in connecting to supplicant. Before sending all the trace logs I would ask some questions. What version of wpa_supplicant is compatbile with network-manger 0.8.992? I tried 0.7.3 and wpa_supplicant from git but the error is always the same: time out in waiting a response from supplicant on the function interface_add_cb in src/supplicant-manager/nm-supplicant-interface.c I saw there are commits in nm for the new supplicant DBUS api, referencing supplicant dbus endpoint on fi.w1.wpa_supplicant1, but starting wpa_supplicant (cmpiled from git master) it says that the registered name is fi.epitest.hostap.WPASupplicant. What am I missing? Do I have to configure wpa_supplicant to enable the new dbus api? Thanks Marco ___ networkmanager-list mailing list networkmanager-list@gnome.org http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/networkmanager-list
Re: Network-manager 0.8.992 and wpasupplicant
You need to compile wpa_supplicant with the new dbus interface support. Check variable CONFIG_CTRL_IFACE_DBUS_NEW in wpa_supplicant/defconfig. Thanks Mikhail. I was missing that point, because debian package uses his own debian\config\linux. Will try soon. WiFi and PPP support
Hello, I am trying to configure a network connection with Ubuntu 9.10 through my DSL modem, which is connected to my laptop through ethernet or wifi (I can estabilish a connection to my home wlan). I managed to establish a connection to the Internet with a DSL connection I created with NetworkManager, but it only works if I attach the ethernet cable, thus not through WiFi. After some web-searching I ended up here: http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2008-November/msg00218.html were I read that NetworkManager at the time of that post was not supporting PPP over Wifi. I therefore tried pppoeconf, and it worked (!) until I rebooted: pppoeconf messed up NetworkManager, so I could not connect to my WLAN. My questions: -Is the 'PPP over Wifi' feature scheduled in a next release or under development? -Does somebody know a way to configure pppoeconf which allows ppp over wifi without messing up NetworkManager? Thank you very much for this project. I am using GNU/Linux since RedHat 8 and NetworkManager has been one of the best additions in all these years. Network manager and Debian sid
Thanks guys for your work!! I'have been following the development of NM 0.7 project since January and now I succedded in packaging all the NetworkManager stuff for my debian sid box. After some quarrel on the new nm-system setting service that is now a system-service I can now use NetworkMnager right from the init.d boot process assigning my Eth0 the right address before logging in. I had to delete all entries in /etc/network/interfaces matching eth0 to start NM without racing with /etc/init.d/networking. Even the only auto eth0 lead to a wrong configuration of NM, probably because of debian network scripts bring up eth0 in ipv6. With only loopback in /etc/network/interfaces all is fine. I now use the keyfile plugin under debian and the new PolicyKit rules to manage the system-connections. My system-connection is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ cat /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/Casa [connection] id=Casa type=802-3-ethernet autoconnect=true timestamp=1205857717 [802-3-ethernet] port=tp speed=0 duplex=full auto-negotiate=true mtu=0 [ipv4] method=manual address1=192.168.233.2;255.255.255.0;192.168.233.1; I struggled two days before having the right syntax on last line. D-Bus Connection in NM 0.6.5 and i NM 0.7
hi, I have written a programm which connects over DBus to the networkmanager(NM) in version .6.5. For example, I ask the NM for the devices or for Wlans. It is possible that the cable is plugged in but I have to active connection. I want to use this programm with the NM 0.7. My question is : Can I use it the same way or what do I change? If I have to change something, can I asked the version, so my programm can work with NM 0.6.5 and with 0.7 ? is There a overview about the functions, which I can use (in XML or in .h)? thanks, marco -- Mfg der bijektive Homomorphismus ist ein Isomorphismus GMX startet ShortView.de.
