That way, the plan types and the usage types can still be declared as
enumerations.

That actually looks pretty good. Oleg, does that look OK to you? If
so, lets rev the patchset Just One More Time and then I'll push it, I
promise :)

Sure, that's fine. Please find the patch on the list.

I am not sure about the following, any opinions?

- Should we add and <"plan type="postpaid"/> for every
such APN?

- Or should we assume that's default?

Regards,
Oleg

you want to use an enumeration, then you'll have to allow for multiple
'plan' or 'type' elements.

Hmm, oh well... maybe we need to do that then. I think having multiple
plan and type tokens is the best way to do this ATM so maybe we do have
to put these into the body of the APN.

So, there are multiple choices:

1. Multiple values for the "type" and "plan" attributes:

...

This isn't possible to validate since XML doesn't allow multiple tokens for the
attribute.

2. Multiple attributes with the same name:

...

XML doesn't allow this either?

3. To put the "type" and "plan" into the body and use them as elements, i.e:

internet
wap
prepaid
postpaid
...

But, here the same problem again, i.e. the content of the element can't be
restricted with the enumeration, right?

4. How about using attributes this way?

...

...

Anything missed? Please comment.

Oleg

Re: [PATCH 1/4] dtd: enhance APN types, add APN plans

2011-07-27 Thread Oleg Zhurakivskyy

Hello everyone,

What if an APN is used for both post- and prepaid (which all I have
encountered have been)? Is the idea then to tag them as postpaid?

One alternative would be to further enhance the database format in
order to permit multiple plans for the APN

Japp.

I am trying to enhance the DTD so this could be possible. So, something like
this:

...

...

and the test input is:

...

...

However, when validating, xmllint gives an error:

serviceproviders.xml:XX: validity error : ENTITIES attribute plan reference an
entity "postpaid" of wrong type

 ^
Any idea what could be wrong and how this can be achieved? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the input! In some cases the APN type might be "internet" although
the word "wap" is present in the name. Because of this, only APNs which were
clearly marked as "wap" in the database before, were marked so in this patch.

As a first step, I suggest to agree and to fix the format of the database and
remark all the APNs without any changes according to the new DTD.

After that, separate APNs can be updated, case by case. Does this sound OK?

Please find patches that extend the mobile-broadband-provider-info database

Re: [PATCH 1/4] DTD changes for mms, prepaid, wap

2011-07-22 Thread Oleg Zhurakivskyy

Hello Andrew, Marcel,

On 07/22/2011 01:28 PM, Andrew Bird (Sphere Systems) wrote:

How would you describe the association between MMS and internet APNs? For
example in the UK Vodafone has the following APN usage:

Contract Plan (MMS retrieval bandwidth is zero rated)

internet access is via 'internet' APN
MMS retrieval is via 'wap.vodafone.co.uk' APN

Prepay Plan (MMS retrieval bandwidth is charged too)
===
internet access is via 'pp.internet' APN
MMS retrieval is via 'pp.internet' APN

So it's important to select the correct APN for your plan even when retrieving
MMS as either it won't function with your SIM, or you'll get charged for
bandwidth when you shouldn't

That's a good example. So with a current approach it's just not possible to
handle such cases. Shall we change it so that the type is internet/wap/mms and
the plan is contract/prepaid? Should then "type" and "plan" be optional or
mandatory?

Does anyone see any problems with this approach? Have we missed any other use
cases or alternative solutions?

Oleg

The only tricky part is that in some cases some providers use the same

I am not sure what's the best way here, i.e. list of types vs listing the APN
twice. Any suggestions?

Yes, that's the idea here, i.e. internet/mobile broadband is implicitly assumed
and is default, so there's no need to mark every single APN as "internet", since
the majority of them are "internet" anyway.

Do you see any problem with this approach?

Re: Extending the mobile-broadband-provider-info database

Hello Olaf,

On 07/20/2011 09:33 PM, Olaf Hering wrote:

While you are at it, maybe something can be added to really establish an
internet connection for certain providers.

For example Vodafone offers something called Websessions. Once the
gsm/ppp connection is established, one has to start a webbrowser and
connect to any http website. This will trigger the WebBridge to open a window
with the remaining time and it will actually enable the real internet
connection in the 'Weblogic Bridge'. Without that http access, one can
just resolve hostnames, but nothing else can be done. I have no idea
wether Vodafone is the only provider doing that. The script below will
automate the http calls for the Websessions. I have used it in the last
two weeks and it worked well for me.

Thanks for the info and idea! Let me check if anybody in oFono might be
interested to extend the provisioning with such capability.

[PATCH 0/4] mms, prepaid, wap apn type extensions

2011-07-21 Thread Oleg Zhurakivskyy
Hello,

Please find the set of patches that extend the mobile-broadband-provider-info
database with the tag specifiers for mms, prepaid and wap.

There are separate patches for mms, preaid, wap and the patch for document type
definitions. The update is for unambiguous cases only, just in order not to run
into the problems. Perhaps, less obvious cases can be done later, case by case.

Oleg

Extending the mobile-broadband-provider-info database

2011-07-19 Thread Oleg Zhurakivskyy

Hello,

I am working on GRPS provisioning plugin for oFono open source telephony stack.
This plugin should make it possible for oFono to automatically configure GPRS
contexts based on information from the provider database. There's an idea to use
the mobile-broadband-provider-info package as the provider database.

Is this the correct list to discuss the issue?

In order to distinguish in between different kind of access point types of the
same operator, there's a need to add a few tags, so the access point type
(wap/mms/prepaid) could be reliably detected.

Will adding the additional tags/tag specifiers bring any incompatibility
problems for the software that already uses the database?

I am not an expert on XML, which would be the preferred way to add the tag?

1.

...

2.

wap
...

So the type would be the enumeration of values (internet|prepaid|wap|mms).
Perhaps, there's no need to mark access points as "internet" (since the majority
of them are "internet" anyway), just extending wap, mms, predaid with the proper
tag would be sufficient. What do you think?

Thanks in advance!

Regards,
Oleg
