[newbie] Mandrake version 5.3 ?
Hello, Just a general question regarding the numbering scheme of the OS releases. As found on the official Mandrake web page: "Linux -Mandrake 5.x is 100% compatible with RedHat 5.x! (note: 5.3 is an exception: Mandrake 5.3 is compatible with RH 5.2 since RH 5.3 is not out and will probably never be)" My question is: how do you know and why (if not) is RedHat 5.3 not going to be released? Thank you, Tomasz

RE: [newbie] Virtual Desktop
I have a ATI Rage IIc card and had the very same problem. My fix was to choose a unlisted video card during the initial setup, then go to xf86config and set the card to the resolution you want. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Andre Baron Sent: Thursday, February 25, 1999 3:36 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [newbie] Virtual Desktop On Wed, 24 Feb 1999, Nick wrote: I have been attempting to get KDE to function properly since the release of Mandrake 5.3. I have tried a Matrox G200, two brands of RIVA TNT cards, a Matrox Millennium II, and an ATI Rage Pro AGP, and the result is always a virtual desktop in KDE. I have tried editing out the XF86Config file to remove the virtual settings, but I have had no luck. With Mandrake 5.2, the Millennium II was properly found and worked fine. This is happening on more than one machine, and also with Red Hat 5.1. I can't figure it out, can someone shed some light on this? I was having the same problem with my ATI Rage Pro card, it's actually not a function of the card, it's the display settings. When I turned my display to *only* 1024x768 (higher may work but my monitor doesn't do it) the virtual desktop dissapeared (thank goodness) Andre
