Re: [newbie] prints lightly

1999-03-01 Thread Steve Philp

Printtool should have the stuff you need.

After opening printtool, click on the printer you want to modify, then
click on 'Edit'. That will bring up a small window with basic
information. Click on the 'Input Filter' button and it'll bring up a
larger window.

On the left-hand side, you'll see the list of available printers. Yours
should have 'Epson, 24 pin' selected. On the upper-right-side, there
should be a small scrollable window with a list of resolutions. Select
a higher resolution, then click on the appropriate buttons to save the
updates.

Try printing out the Postscript test on the main window and see if the
output looks any better to you.

Thanks Steve for the quick reply. I don't see a way of changing the
resolution in KDE printool. If text mode is needed, what are the steps
 to getting it done.

I've used test pages in KDE printtool and each test printed correctly
with an Epson 24 pin. However, the lines print too lightly and are
barely readable. Read the Help items.
Set the print head to the closet paper level. Also put in a new ribbon.
   That didn't help.
   What do you suggest trying?
   Thank for your help.

You might try editing the resolution and bumping it up a bit. It will
slow down printing significantly, but it will cause the printer to go
over the lines a couple times to darken them up.

I'm failing to install Mandrake 5.3 from a Win95 partition (d:) on my

It happened to me too! It said the file install3.tr was
unreachable. Probably a bug in the bootdisk. Maybe it does not work with
FAT32 partitions?

how do you get linux mandrake to see my fat 32 partition i have used

Compile the kernel with VFAT fs module, and add the following
entry to /etc/fstab:

/dev/hdXX /mnt/Win98vfatdefaults,user 1 1

where /dev/hdXX is your FAT32 partition.

Easiest way would be simply:

   rpm -e anonftp

That'll get rid of support for anonymous users.
