this took me a while to figure out. at the moment wine is not at version 1. so it still can't do much. version 1 will have an x interface. but if you still want to use it: wine is only a command line program. open a x termanal, and type: wine /mnt/windows/windows/regedit.exe this will run regedit. where the second part is the loctaion. go to www.winehq.com to see a database of programs that will run. How do i connect one computer with MD 7.2 and one with win98? at the momment windows is on an ipx network? will this complicate things? please keep this simple. because any howto i find complicated.

Right, x problem. try the fbdev, (if its there in the instailation, if not ask somewon else) Privaliges. your user name does not have many privalages. just log on under root. RPM RPMdrake? is it there in version 7.0? never tried it. Try geting 7.2.

X starts up fine, but when your in x you cannot switch to auora, console, or even logout? without it freezeing up. I have a diamond stealth 2, with 4m. 400mhz AMD K6-2, 64mb of ram. (I have got 64mb spare but i'm sure wheather it works ok, because it didn't seem to go in win98?) Does anyone know of how to solve this? ALSO when using xfdrake in cosole mode, when you test it is fine but you can't go back, i belive this is because it runs x?

yes, i've got a simeler problem. but it is on my dads computor with , win98! This happened just after i stole BOROWED. my dads main sound card. so this may have got somthing to do with interupts and irq settings. is it an onbord sound card?

are there any xf86 (ver 4?) config tools for mndrake 7.2 that do not use x other than XF86Config?
[newbie] INFO - Installation problem
i had starange installation problem (Mandrake 7.2). when i went to config x, and i changed the graphic card to fbdev, it came up with an error message and would not go back. when i installed in the same way before it worked before. anyway the only way to get around this was to go through the x config, and let it config itself wrong. then to use a x config console tool. that should have done it. but there was no option of an fbdev. so i pulled out an old pci 4mb card and i am now using taht. it is better anyway than my onboard 8mb graphic card, no really it is! If anyone else hsa had simmerler problems please inform me.
