[newbie] Cant find the printer

2005-03-19 Thread Carlton Matthew
Following previous advice, I added the line
lp
to the file /etc/modprobe.preload
lsmod now gives
[EMAIL PROTECTED] carlton]# lsmod

ehci-hcd   26244  0
uhci-hcd   28752  0
usbcore   103172  4 ehci-hcd,uhci-hcd
This indicates that the parallel port is now visible.
On boot, the system indicates that cups is started. However the ssytm stil
fails to see the printer.
Any Ideas
Carlton

I have two PCs running MDK 10.1
On attempting to install cups, one PC downloads the files from the internet,
and reports bad signatures, the other PC installs from the CDs with no

gt;
gt;Hmmm. That's a new one to me. I've never has problems with HP
gt;Laserjet 4 printers in Linux. Ever. Do you have the CUPS and HPOJ
gt;packages installed Carlton?
gt;
gt;Try 'lsmod' to make sure that the printer port driver modules have

gt;
gt;parport_pc 32132  1
gt;lp  9836  0
gt;parport32040  2 parport_pc,lp
