[newbie] Kernel Panic

I just installed mandrake 7.1. Compiled a new kernel and now I get an error
message on boot, Kernel Panic: No init found. Any ideas

I had the same problem. I found that the screen resolution was to low 
(640X480), had to bump up to (800X600). You can also set a virtual desktop 
to 800X600
