how do you start the sendmail program?

The sendmail program is usually a daemon that is already running!
If you read the book on the CD-ROM called "Linux Unleashed," it will explain
it very nicely. Incidently, "Linux Unleashed" is usually a $50.00 book which
Mandrake has so nicely made available for free to those who bought the
Installation package.

Thank you, Mandrake!

[newbie] Error trying to load Kicq

2000-03-25 Thread Daryl Fisk

I'm so new that if something doesn't work, I don't know what to do about it! I
got this message trying to load kicq for the first time.

kicq: error in loading shared libraries: kicq: undefined symbol:
icq_RecvMailExpress

Any ideas?!

Re: [newbie] Drake Config

2000-03-20 Thread Daryl Fisk

And if that doesn't work, put in your first cd and mount it, click on Mandrake,
and then on RPMS and then on linuxconf and install it!

First, you can access 'linuxconf' by typing 'linuxconf' on any terminal
 window (xterm, eterm, etc.)
Second, I'm not sure why you can't access Drakconf through KDE except that
you should make sure you're logged in as 'root'. Hope that helps

[newbie] Fetchmail

2000-03-18 Thread Daryl Fisk

fetchmail brings down my mail from the server just fine but then it somehow all
gets tossed into the "bit bucket!"

I'm able to use pine to compose and send mail anywhere just fine. also I can
send to the root and any user. I just can't get fetchmail to do enough in
order to read it!

[newbie] fetchmail

2000-03-18 Thread Daryl Fisk

I can get fetchmail to download my mail, but when it comes time for it to turn
it over to the system, everything seems to be thrown into the "bit bucket"
how do I get fetchmail to do its job?

This is a copy of my .fetchmailrc file:

set postmaster root
set no bouncemail

poll mail.earthlink.net protocol POP3
  user phlsphr, is phlsphr here;

I have a mailbox called "phlsphr" all set up and it receives just fine from
"mail" , "pine" and "elm"
Also if I send to outside mailboxes like my yahoo or hotmail sites, the mail
arrives just fine from these three. I just can't get my mail to come through
fetchmail
