Re: [newbie] what web browser do you all use?
Mark Sheppard wrote: What web browser does everyone use with Linux? I hate to say it, but the main reason I keep booting back to windows every couple hours is because the NS version that comes with Mandrake just totaly blows, and If I want to view any web pages I have got to have a decent browser. are there any decent bowsers available? I did see that there is an IE port to unix available, and a possible linux port in the works. Thanks zach First, I'm a 100% Linux user, and I used Netscape in Windows NT, and it wasn't hard to switch to Linux. Now, if you still want to use that crap named IE, (I like it's history and favourites pans, though Mozilla (= Netscape 5.0) got something better... and it got a nice offline mode), you can go to www.microsoft.com and download the SunOS version for x86. Also, you got the option to use Mozilla as I said earilier, and Opera. Both aren't yet realses, but both are usefull, Opera a little more.
Re: [newbie] Help Downloading
Get it from www.gozilla.com (Its GO!Zilla, and it resumes both HTTP and FTP sessions) Paul Derbyshire wrote: Sounds like getright is an FTP client that lets you download in sessions? Where can it be downloaded from? Also, if you download the 7.0 image, can you save it on the hard disk on a 'doze partition somewhere (I have easily 2 gigs free on my C: 'doze partition) and then access it and trigger the install in an existing, older Mandrake (say, 6.0) session, after of course mounting the 'doze partition with the image file? if so how? -- .*. [newbie] Time
I got a problem with my time. It always changes... Like if today I set my time to 11:00PM, and this system isn't rebooted. I come tommorow at the same time, it shows 11:35PM, though the mechanical clock on the wall still shows 11:00PM What to do?
Re: [[newbie] HP Deskjet 722C]
Actually it will print only in BW for now, but will work soon in color... go to www.freshmeat.net and search there. The problem is that DeskJet 700+, and some others use their own propeierty protocol (This sux) and not the usual protocol like DeskJet 69x etc... I go into DrakConf, Printer Configuration, Local, and then it sees it on lp0, but from there I do not know what to do. I have tried all of the different deskjet printers that are listed but none of them work. Where do I get the right driver to make this thing work, and how do I install the driver. Any help would be highly appreciated. Brett W. Wolfson == I'm afraid the 7xx series of HP InkJets are winprinters. You probably won't get much luck getting it to print normally in Linux. If you purchased recently, see if the merchant will exchange it for something in the 69x series (if still available). They work flawlessly w/Linux. Re: [newbie] Mandrake 7 tcsh and dir colour
You can use MDK6.1 and just use the kernel .rpm from 7, or simply take the kernel from www.kernel.org, go to freshmeat.net, and apply the supermount patch, and any other patches you need from MDK7's kernel... Elvis Chen wrote: hi everyone, How does one enable ls to display file names in colour depending on the file extension? It used to be working under Mandrake 6.1, but once I installed Mandrake 7, it stops working. The shell I'm using is tcsh. HOWEVER, if I use bash, the ls-listing are displayed in colour. Looks to me that there are a lot of details in Mandrake 7 are NOT being taken care of. It is too bad that I need the new kernel or else I'll switch back to 6.1 thanx, Elvis

Marc Herms wrote: Besides all my probs (see other mails in this newsgroup), I cannot get my ISDN card (Fritz! card) to work with Linux. I tried ttsy0 or whatever this is .. don`t remember.. for the internal ISDN card, but it doesn´t dial!! Further more, is USB now supported with the new Kernel? Mandrake 7.0 and new kernel. Thanks, marc About ISDN, go to freshmeat.net and search for kISDN, it is a great app that does all the config for you, and does everything for you... You just run it. And as far as I know USB is supported only in the development kernels (2.3.x) not in the stable ones (2.2.x) so wait for 2.4.x for full USB support, or get yourself a development one and prepere to crash...
