[newbie] RE:MS WORD

2000-04-19 Thread Emanuele La Rosa

Maybe you are right but it crashes too many times and it has some bugs.
I decided to write my thesis with Staroffice and sill I'm doing it, but now I'm
quite sure that I've made a big mistake

Star Office can open and save Word documents without problems. Depending
(maybe) on the version of Word and Star Office. Note: Star Office is free (Not
Open Source, but you don't have to pay for it) and in my opinion as good as MS
Office.

[newbie] ata66 Please help me.

2000-03-12 Thread Emanuele La Rosa

Please My girlfriend is going to buy a new computer that support the Ultra-ata
66. She wants to put Linux in her computer but I don't know how it works with
U-66. The problem is: The system works without this protocol o it doesn't boot
at all? If the problem is only due to a non used protocol, maybe using the U-33
I think that the system will work pretty good too. in fact, maybe I'm wrong,
if a good hard-disk has a band-witht of 12MByte using a U-33, or U-66 shouldn't
be a problem because the bottleneck is in the speed of Hard-disk and not in
the controller.
Please help.

 Subject: Re: [newbie] C++ Compiler Help

  Here's how I do it: g++ -o executable_name source_code.cpp

  That should compile it. I personally have that all set up into a script so
 it
  takes less time to type. Put

  #!/bin/bash
  g++ -o $1 $1.cpp; ./$1

  into a text file, like "compile", chmod it (chmod u+x compile), and move
 it
  in your path, like /usr/local/bin. Then to compile a program you wrote,
 just
  type "compile program_name" and it'll compile and run it automatically.
 And as
  far as I know, all compilers work the same way.

   hey, this is an easy question:
   How do I compile a program under g++
   I just can't figure it out
   lets say, I have a file called "test.cpp" under / the dir
   how would I compile it?
   when i try, it does not return anything on the command line
   and just makes a new command line, just like when i started!
   also, do all the compilers work the same way? ie - gcc, etc.

   Thanks,
   Julien

[newbie] a big e-mail box

2000-02-27 Thread Emanuele La Rosa

I think that the problem of a mailing list is due to a number of 150 letters in
a day. Well a very simple solution could be the follow
Go to the Mail directory in your home directory. In that directory make a
asci-test-file called for example newbie. Using Kmail you can put your newbie
letter in that directory. You'll have a place in which with all mail written in
the mailing list and it could be useful whenever you need it.
