[newbie] Errors during instalation of Mandrake 8.2 on my Toshiba laptop

2002-05-03 Thread Frederico Figueiredo

Hi there.
I'm able to install Mandrake 7.2 on my Toshiba 1700-500 (Celeron 700 10G
disk and 128MB RAM) laptop with no problems.

I've tryed installing versions 8.1 and 8.2, and many errors occur, of the
type: There was an error installing packages: XPTO Go on anyway? If I say
YES the errors repeat and the installation crashes a few errors after.

This happends in both versions but only on my laptop. I've tryed the same
instalation files in my desktop PC (PII 233 3G disk and 248RAM) and it works
fine.

Both versions are recorded in diferent CD's.

Any idea what is the problem?

I really need help since I'm need to update my linux.
Thanks for the help.
Fred

Do you have network loopback compiled in your kernel?

[newbie] Installing Network Adapter on LM7.2

2001-06-11 Thread Frederico Figueiredo

Thaks for helping me with the loopback...
I was able to put it to work using ifconfig lo 127.0.0.1
It's really strange why I have to do this in order to work. Because I use
M7.2 on another computer and I never needed this option.

I have another problem.
I bought an Network Adapter Acer ALN601a...
And I can't put it to work. Acer does not have any drives for it, and I've
tried with realteek drivers, but it doesn't work.
By the way, I'm trying to install it on a notebook, Toshiba 1700-500...
I really need to acess my local network.
Can someone welp me with this simple problem :)

Thanks,
Fred

Re: [newbie] ld.so missing in Mandrake 7.2

2001-04-06 Thread Frederico Figueiredo

hi Steve...
thanks for the advice, but it didn't work! it did made sense what you said,
but I still have the same problem and I don't have the time to find out what
is wrong...
I thinking in installing RedHat (that I'm sure it works) only for the
application, since I need it for school.
And yes, Limes is the ancient (but still useful) multiprocessor simulator
for 486's! Do you want it?

Fred

I'm now using a software application (Limes) that uses the dynamic
linker
ld.so, but this file (library) doesn't exist in the rpm
ld.so-1.9.11-4mdk.i586.rpm (for Mandrake 7.2)but it exists (for example)
in
the same rpm but for the RED HAT distribution!
What can I do? I really need help!

 Try this:

 #cd /lib

 #ln -s ld-2.1.3.so ld.so
 #ldconfig

This links ld.so to the modern name for the library. ldconfig updates
the systems map of what libraries are where.
Be very careful. Do not get the arguments backwards or you could really
 hose your system.
Is Limes that ancient multiprocessor simulator for 486's?
