[newbie] cleaning gcc-3.0.1 installation files

2001-08-29 Thread Gabriel Arcos

Hi, I had compiled gcc-3.0.1 but
the installation files get to much space from my little HardDisk. Somebody knows
what directories I can delete without problems? there is a make clean? I can
delete the source directory ?

Thanks!

I seem to recall there is a makefile option that deletes the unneeded
files
between builds. Building gcc takes a lot of space - you need the object
files and executables for several compile passes because you start with
the
source, then compile that, then compile that again using the compiler you
built in the previous step, etc.

My current 2.95.3 is just a little bit shy af 200 megs. That's probably
 a full build - I didn't do a make clean.

Most makefiles in packages offer a make clean, and you can usually use
that
to save some space. But you can't use it prior to the make install just as
a way to save space, obviously, because it erases the stuff you built and
you
 get to start over. :)

How can I tell what version of gcc I have? Or any other program, for

this)

 Thanks again,

it report is:

XIO: fatal IO error 104 (Connection reset by peer) on X server :0.0 after
0 requests (0 known processed) with 0 events remaing.

another error I get, but this one I get all the time but the system work

Looks like xfs (X Font Server) is not running. Usually a reboot will help,

I believe that it is a service, so perhaps

What has happened is that /root/tmp/.fonts-X11 got deleted while X was

I have figured out a way to print from StarOffice under Mandrake8.0:

In StarOffice, print to a file, which generates a postscript file.

Take that file and use gs -sDEVICE=pngmono to generate a png file.

Use Imagemagick to resize the file to a smaller size.

Open the file with Konqueror and print.

 And then it prints!

However, there must be an easier way to do this? If GS can display it
as a binary, and Mandrake can somehow print binary images from
Konqueror, then surely it must be possible to print the binary
directly without going through the browser?

I am currently using Mandrake with StarOffice. I can create and print
documents easily from Kword, but StarOffice does a much better job
importing MS documents, so I would like to be able to print from
that. However, I can't print from it. Also, when I save the
documents as Postgscript, the Postscript also doesn't print. It just
does nothing. This is with a Deskjet 882C. Ghostscript is installed,
and it does work to display the documents, but they don't print. Some
postscript files do print, but none generated by StarOffice or
 enscript for example.

 Any sugestions?
