[newbie] two monitors; experience with wine?; Database programs?

1999-12-29 Thread Hannes Lackner

Hi,

At win98 it is possible to install two graphiccards and monitors,
so if you move your mouse to the edge of the monitor you can
switch between them.
This is very fine because I can have the main Window on my 19"
monitor and the toolpalettes on the 15" one .

Is this possible with Linux too?

Does anyone have some experience with the windows modulator
"wine?". Ore other emulators better?
How much does emulating windows affect the speed?
I am using the Vectorworks 2d-3d drawing and rendering program
from Diehlgraphsoft and would like to run it at Linux.
My hardware: CPU: Celeron 400 mhz, overclocked to 500 mhz
Graficards: Matrox Millenium II (PCI) 8Mb
ATI Rage II (AGP) 8Mb
  RAM: 128 Mb

Can someone tell me a really good Database program for Linux?
The one which is included at the Staroffice isn't the best
I need to be able to make sophisticated calculations.

Thanks in Advance and a happy, y2k- conforming New Year's Eve ;-)

Hannes

I guess there is the wrong port assigned.

More information please. What kind of mouse (ps/2 or serial?) What
brand, how many buttons on it? How does it not work? Does it just not
move in X, or do the buttons not work correctly? More information is
needed before we can give you a definitive answer. Any suggestions at

Oh, sorry about my sloppy wording.
Well, it is a microsoft intellimouse, PS/2 or serial compatible.

I installed it on the PS/2 port now, but the mousepointer does only
run at the upper edge of the window with breathtaking speed.

Anyone a suggestion?

Thanks in Advance,

Hannes
