Re:[newbie] IRC Server

Why not just use the best one there is ;) Ultimate IRCd --
www.shadow-realm.org. I seem to remember having some problems
compiling it on mandrake, but as far as I remember it was easily
fixed too. You should definitely check it out.

Enjoy

actually, I downloaded the src rpm and recompiled it with a few

If you want to run your own leaf.. then you would probably be
better off
  grabbing a
newer more maintained ircd.. the one mandrake offer is not really

  anymore
as far as I can tell..

As an alternative, there is a perl ircd daemon available somewhere
on
  freshmeat or
sourceforge that seems pretty cool. and mozilla.org have a perl
bott as
  well.

  just FYI.

You can also download bauhmut () the ircd that DAL uses from
thier web
site. Nice touch there on the FAQ about there never will be a
windoze
version. :-)

All previous warnings about running an IRC server without your ISP's
permission apply unless, of course, you are an ISP. In that case be
very
prepared to shape and restrict traffic to that IP.

[newbie] IP address and ProFTPd

2003-04-02 Thread Kasper Thunø
Hey list.

My problem is this:
When I try to start the ProFTPd i get this error: Fatal: unable to determine
IP address of hostname. I know how to fix this, by putting the hostname/IP
in /etc/hosts, for example. It works fine when I do that, but the daemon in
question is running on a laptop with an IP-adress that changes ever so
often.
So...

My question is this:
Is there a way to work around this without having to change the static entry
in /etc/hosts every time i get a new IP?

TIA!

Kasper
