Fwd: RE: [newbie] LM 7.2 in Toronto, Ont. Canada.

2001-03-12 Thread Pavel Zubkov

Thanks to everybody who responded. I will go with Computer Helper Guy, seems a
bit easier. Unfortunatelly it is next to impossible to buy a boxed LM 7.2 in
Toronto. Not even Universities or colleges carrying it. I bought my 7.0 in
college store but they had no idea that 7.2 is availible. Somehow Toronto
is a Red Hat city, that is sad, wee need more choices. But i guess it's life.
Thanx for the responce.

Try Staples. In Vancouver they have both versions and they are $10 cheaper
than Future Shop

Well, if you're spending and losing lots of time searching locally, you
could
possibly order if from somewhere off the web and get it delivered in
comparable time. There are too many to begin listing, but start and LM own
site, they have links to ordering and there's cheapbytes.

Are there WalMarts in Canada?

[newbie] RE: modem config

2001-02-17 Thread Pavel Zubkov

If you have a Bell Call Answer service i think i can help you out. I have an
answering service and my roommate doesn't pick up his messages for a while.
All you can get is a busy signal instead of the dial tone. I solved it by
replacing the first line in modem commands to atx0. Now the modem is not
looking for the dial tone but dials right away. Hope it will help .

Can anyone tell me what the commands to give to my modem would be to
bypass the voicemail tones??

Because I have tried to insert pauses into my script to wait til it gets
to the dial tone but that still doesnt work...

Any ideas??

[newbie] burners

2001-02-06 Thread Pavel Zubkov

I know lately we all been reading alot about burners and everybody get tired of
it. but somehow it is a big problem especially for the people who are new to
linux. i have another burner problem. i have tried all recomendations that
came up on this mailing list but so far nothing helps. here is my situation:
i have a matshita cdrw 7585 burner and a regular cd rom on my system. i am
running LM 7.0 and my burner (which is adressed as cdrom where my
normal cd rom is cdrom2) can not be used to read cd's. every time i
am trying to read a cd from the burner i get following message "could not list
directory contents file:/mnt/cdrom/" that is strange 'cause i have installed
my 7.0 from the burner and it was working fine. if anyone can help that would
be super. many thanx in advance
paul

[newbie] Bell answering service and dial-up internet connection

2001-01-27 Thread Pavel Zubkov

Hi to everyone! I was wondering if someone could help me out. Recently
I started using 7.0 Mandrake. The problem I have is : I have a Bell
answering service. If there is a message waiting to be picked up there
is a bisy signal instead of the dial tone. Is there any way to override
the search for the dialtone before the modem starts dialing.? If
someone could help me out that will be super.
Thanx
Paul
