[newbie] Unable to access cdrom or floppy

2000-03-23 Thread Peter H. Hackett

When I try to access the cdrom or floppy from either command line or
desktop, I get an error such as : /mnt/floppy: Input/output error (same goes
for cdrom). They both show as mounted and are in the fstab, but I'm at a
loss. Any Ideas??

Thanks...

[newbie] NIC Detection

2000-03-20 Thread Peter H. Hackett

Hey All...

If for some reason, my NIC is not detected during boot, is there a way to
manually tell it what and where it is (as if it were being detected)? It's
a 3c900 combo card. It gets 'detected' under RH6, but not with mandrake.

Any and all help appreciated...

Peter

Re: [newbie] [NEWBIE] NIC 3C905b problems

I don't think new drivers will solve anything if the card isn't recognized
in the first place...

Am I right here??

Pete

Last week I saw 3C905B drivers for Linux right on the 3COM web site. It
might
be worth downloading them and giving them a try...

[newbie] Need help getting network up.

2000-03-19 Thread Peter H. Hackett

For whatever reason, I cant get dhcp working... in fact, I cant seem to get
the network up at all. I've tried to config it using linuxconf tool but no
luck. When you use dhcp (Road Runner cable modem service), what information
do you 'need' to supply when configuring with the tool?

Any tips appreciated!

Pete

Re: [newbie] Need help getting network up. -Follow up

2000-03-19 Thread Peter H. Hackett

Ahh... it seems that for what ever reason... my 3com 3C900 Combo is not
detected. (not listed in dmesg).. that would explain it. Any way I can
'force' detection of it? Anyone???

The thing works in RH, why not in Mandrake??

Any and all help appreciated!

Before I download and install this puppy, I'm looking for information on if
the MS Intellimouse Explorer (USB) mouse is supported in any way. I know
that the site says 'all mice', but I wan't to be sure that this particular

Thanks.
