If you run into dependency problems, get the rpms to satisfy the
dependencies discovered. If you run into conflicts, stop.
Doing urpmi package.rpm will try to install the package in question and all
the needed packages from the resources defined or it will fail, but it is
better than plain rpm. This may help to set up urpmi resources:

KMail can already handle hotmail http mail via gotmail
(http://freshmeat.net/projects/gotmail/).
Simply fetch your mail from your hotmail account with gotmail, save it in a
local mbox-style mailbox (Warning: Don't save it in ~/Mail !) and then fetch
the messages from this mailbox with KMail. You can even configure gotmail as
precommand for a local account in KMail so that in order to fetch new mail
from your hotmail account all you have to do is press the Check Mail button
in KMail. Of course you can also enable interval checking for your hotmail
account.

That's the beauty of Unix. Don't reinvent the wheel a thousand times but use
the tools that already exist.

 Regard,
 Ingo

Gotmail is a utility to non-interactively download email from a Hotmail
account. It can download messages from all folders, messages from certain
folders, or new messages only. There are options to delete downloaded
messages or mark them as read. Gotmail can forward messages to other email
addresses or save them as local mbox-style mailboxes.

I don't see why this wouldn't work in any other mail client that can read
mailboxes althout I really like KMail and the precommand that really helps
there may not be available in other clients.
If you want KMail to look like outlook, hold your breath and wait for kde 3.2,
the answer is Kontact: http://www.kontact.org

for more information of what's going on in 3.2 related to PIM:

I've installed MDK 9.0 and everything was working ok, but after making all the
updates, X stoped starting at boot.
If I run /etc/rc.d/init.d/dm start by had it works, but it doesn't work
automatically.
It was at position 30 which didn't seem to be right, dm run beforre http even!
I think it wasn't starting because the framebuffer interface was already up, I
may be wrong, but I moved dm to 99 and it worked, once, now, it's not working
anymore. I see starting dm in the framebuffer interface, it says ok, but
after that, all I get is the console.
Does anybody know what might be wrong here ?
Thanks.

Well, I removed some kde 2 packages and I ended up installing them again, but

kde 2 is there, didn't remove any font, but I had some problems with the

That error I get it to the console every 5 minutes or so, I'm running in
runlevel 5, X is working but it crashes from time to time (in fact, as the
uptime increases for more than 18 hs the crash posibilities get real high).
I don't have almost any gnome packages, just some libs, but this was this way

[newbie] configuring c-media sound card.

2001-06-09 Thread Pupeno

I cannot get this sound card working.
It worked well with windows and suse, but now, I'm using mandrake and I
cannot make it work.
I found IRQ conflicts (soundcard-vga, soundcard-eth1, soundcard-usb), etc,
etc.
So, disabling usb I manage to not have conflicts.
But now, it doesn't work anyway.
The sound is a c-media cm8738
When I configure it with sndconfig everything seems to be working, I hear to
the sound sample, but when I try to play an mp3 for example, it sundely stops
in the middle of the music (using xmms), it inserts noise when playing a CD
and arts core dumps.
playing mp3 with the alsa player seems to work, but I'm not configuring it
with alsa (as far as I know).
Some one told me that this could be a dma problem, and told me some other
things to include in the kernel, some things to change, but, maybe there're
other that I should change.
I've been having this problem with the original mandrake 8.0 kernel, (2.4.3)
and with the kernels I've compiled (2.4.5).
Thank you.
