[newbie] clean LCD of laptop

2004-03-23 Thread QingHua Wang
Hi there,

I am just curious about how you guys clean the LCD of your laptops, or LCD
monitors. Last time I did that with a soft cloth. Any other ways? Many
thanks.

Re: [newbie] X3d

2003-12-30 Thread QingHua Wang
Hi Steven,

You are right that K3B can be installed directly with Mandrake 9.1 (I tried
this but I don't check if it also supports Mandrake 9.2). You can go to its
website and download the binary package. It works. You can also download
another program X-CD-Roast. It's great.

QingHua.

I ordered a pair of 3d glasses for www.x3d.com. They have an installation

was anyhting about using them with Linux, alot of websites appeared
relating to X3d technology. I don't know if that has to do with the glasses
although it seemed pretty similiar. If someone knows if the X3d glasses can
be installed with Linux will they tell me? Thanks.

[newbie] cd burning fails

2003-10-22 Thread QingHua Wang
Hi, there

Yesterday I tried to burn some photos to a cd. I seemed that everything's OK,
but after the burning I couldn't access the cd. I used K3B 0.8.1 to create a
data CD. The CD writer is a Toshiba one. (I have used it to burn MDK 9.1 into
CDs with Window$ before but now I shift to MDK.) What's wrong? Any help will
be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance.

Bests,

QingHua

PS: it should be an old topic but I can't search the archives of the MDK
mailing lists.

I remerber there are some tools can edit PDF files, but they are mostly
window$ based. You can check the link http://www.pdfzone.com.
You may find out something useful there. HTH.

Re: [newbie] Adobe Acrobat on Linux?

2003-07-21 Thread QingHua Wang
You can go to the website of Acrobat and find there a version for Unix(Linux).
This version works well. Sometime some special symbols can not be displayed
correctly with xpdf, but they have no problems with Acrobat reader. HTH.

Re: [newbie] Mandrake 9.1 Installation Problem

2003-04-01 Thread QingHua Wang
At first I met a similar problem that I couldn't start X. But when I
reconfigured my vedio card from the option XFree 4.3 ... with 3 D
acceleration to just XFree 4.3 without 3D acceleration, everything was
fine.

Re: [newbie] Mandrake 9.1 Installation Problem

2003-04-01 Thread QingHua Wang
Sorry, I forgot that. My computer is a Compaq presario 2815 (laptop) and my
graphic card is a ATI mobility Raedon. The installer can detect it
automatically with the right configuration. The installation is very
fluent. I just simply follow the instructions of the wizard. Then everything
is ok. Can your graphic card be detected by the installer?

Re: [newbie] help! Mandrake 9.1 installed, WinXP killed!

2003-03-31 Thread QingHua Wang
I used the system rescue disks to detect and fix the errors, and I also used
the OS disk to repair the WinXP system. It finally works well again.

Jolly good, I have had it sort quite a few similar problems as well, worth
remembering.

[newbie] 9.1 does not work

2003-03-28 Thread QingHua Wang
Hi there,

I downloaded 3 cds of Mandrake 9.1 yesterday, but when I try to install it
this morning I find it can not resize my hard drive, which is a fujitsu
MHR2030AT all in NTFS with a size of 27.9 GB. (the intsller just said it's
not resizeable) Can anyone please give some pointers to fix it? Many thanks
in advance.

BTW, even the install failed I think this version of 9.1 is very nice

QingHua

Re: [newbie] Fwd: Dual Boot?

2002-11-06 Thread QingHua Wang

Hi there,

Can you explain in detail about what you do for the
dual booting? I am struggling with this problem. I have asked about it but the
answer is to find some disk tools such as PatitionMagic to make a partition for
Linux from thepredefined NTFS partition(WinXP). However, PartitionMagic is
not a free program. So can I share your experiences with this problem? Thanks in
advance.

Re: [newbie] for suggestion

2002-10-08 Thread QingHua Wang

Thanks a lot for your suggestion, Brian and Michael. I am going abroad for
conferences since the end of September. I found there is some information
useful in http://www.linux-laptop.net. There is a detailed information about
how to install linux with WinXP on a 2700. I will consider whether that's
suitable for in my case. Thanks agin.
