[newbie] Connecting parallel printer through USB -> parallel converter
Hello, I have an old HP DeskJet 560C printer which I used under Mandrake through a standard parallel port connection. Now I tried to connect the printer via a USB to Centronics 36 cable connector to be able to print throgh the USB port (by the way, this works when printing under XP, WinUAE Amiga OS 3.9 and under MorphOS, so there is no problem with the converter or the printer). Under Mandrake (10.0 Kernel 2.6) I created a new printer with Harddrake2, went to the dialoque (choosing printer model, port and so on, the same stuff I did when I configured it for the parallel port in the past) and it seems to be okay. But as soon as I want to print (from any application), the print dialogue hangs, the application seems to freeze and nothing prints. I have to kill the application or to reboot Mandrake. Any ideas what it could be? Cheers Yvan Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Go to http://www.mandrakestore.com Join the Club : http://www.mandrakeclub.com

Hello Paul, I think w3mir will do what you want. [newbie] Re: Asus motherboards
Hello Keith, I have a P4P800 ASUS Motherboard. It has a Gigabit Ethernet controller on board. It really sucked with Mandrake 9.0, Ethernet didn't work correctly, no sound support. I recently upgraded to Mandrake 10.0 and now everything works with no problems. Re: [newbie] No network connection
There are several authentication methods to prevent unauthorized machines to connect to a network. For example 802.2x which activates the switchport you are connected to only after successful authentication. Perhaps you have these kind of problems? > Hello, > > I tried again to connect to the school LAN and nothing works. > What I did is opening the configuration panel and used the internet > network > wizard with the notebook connected to the LAN. > All the network is under Windows 98 with no server. > I have also installed LINneighberhod. > Wrankly I do not now how to do it and what to fill in the different config > > pannels. > Thanks for your help. > > > -- GMX ProMail (250 MB Mailbox, 50 FreeSMS, Virenschutz, 2,99 EUR/Monat...) jetzt 3 Monate GRATIS + 3x DER SPIEGEL +++ http://www.gmx.net/derspiegel +++ Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] 3Com Gigabit Ethernet 3C940 supported?
Okay, looking at the Mandrake Database of supported hardware I know it's not supported. It's even not mentioned there. I have a ASUS P4P800 Motherboard with a built-in Gigabit Ethernet Adapter Model and Chipset 3Com 3c940. Autodetection doesn't work and even selecting it manually doesn't work, because it's not in the list and all other available 3Com models won't work. Does anyone by any chance know how to let this Ethernet Adapter work under Mandrake? (I have 9.0 installed, but in the Mandrake Database 3C940 is not even mentioned for Mandrake 9.2, so upgrading wouldn't help I'm afraid. I don't need 1GB speed by the way (10 Mbps is enough my cablemodem provider offers me a download rate of 2 Mbps). Cheers Yvan Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? I don't use the SCSI card often under windows and never under Linux. If I would never use it under windows I would just remove the card. If somebody can tell me how I can tell the Kernel to just ignore this card (without being able to boot this kernel of course) then I think I would be happy. -- +++ GMX - die erste Adresse für Mail, Message, More +++ Neu: Preissenkung für MMS und FreeMMS! http://www.gmx.net Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? [newbie] Problem with SCSI Controller
Hello group, my PC has a SCSI-Controller "Tekram DC390/AM53C974 V2.0f 2000-12-20". I use the controller only when booting Windows, I don't use it with Mandrake. But Mandrake doesn't boot because of this controller. During booting I always got the following message: ... scsi: aborting command due to timeout : pid , scsi 1, channel 0, id 0, lun 0 inquiry 00 00 00 ff 00 SCSI host 1 abort (pid 7) timeout resetting ... this messages repeats all over again and Mandrake refuses to go further in the boot process. It's even more disturbing as I don't use this controller under Mandrake, but I can't remove it because I need it for windows. I am able to boot with an older kernel. Is there any way I can tell Mandrake just to don't care about this SCSI-controller? Any help appreciated Thank you Yvan Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft?
