[newbie] Screens 1,2,3 and 4

1999-08-29 Thread cosmorph

I have a question.
Sometimes when you initialize programs the programs window
goes beyond the edge of your screen. When I first started messing
around with linux I pressed a button that enabled me to move
around on the entire desktop screens 1,2,3 and 4 by just moving
my mouse icon to the edge of the screen. If anyone knows which
button that is, Id greatly appreciate it?

[newbie] no such device!

1999-08-21 Thread cosmorph

Heres my problem: I have filled out all the information about
connecting to the internet via an ethernet card for the @home
network. I have a 16 bit Ethernet Card. When I finished filling out all
the information the konsole displayed the message" unknown
interface: no such device delaying eth0 intilization"

If anyone has any ideas of how I can correct this and/or if you know
what type of 16 bit ethernet cards were handed out by Rogers
about 2 years ago that would be great.

Struggling newbie

Re: [newbie] First time linux user in DIRE need of help!

1999-08-13 Thread cosmorph

Go to the web site of your monitors manufacturer, there you should
find out the specs of your monitor. If you can't find it there, phone
up a help number which usually comes with your system. Ask
them for the:
Horiz. Frequency 30Khz - 50 Khz
Vert. Frequency 50 Hz - 90 Hz
Horiz. Addressability 1024 Pels (Max)
Vert. Addressability 768 Lines (Max)

Of your Monitor. The numbers displayed above are my monitor
specs. They are only an example. (DO NOT USE THESE SPECS
ON YOUR MONITOR) each monitor is different. Once you have
them go back to linux and configure them. Im not sure what
command to type to find monitor configurations. But im sure the
books that came with mandrake should help you..

Theres no better time than now to get on the Linux Bandwagon I
think. The Earlier you understand linux the better off you'll be when
later versions come around..

Yes you can load MS Dos from LILO in an extended partition. Dos
shouldn't have any problems with it.
