BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker
operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos
Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War.

Re: [newbie] Can't boot on iMac CDRW

2001-12-09 Thread gunner carstens

I have installed Mandrake Linux 8.0 on my imac and I can't get
in the boot menu. I have Boot rom version $0004.17f4 and rom
revision $77D.45F6. I have three hfs+ partitions (number
9,10,11), an apple bootstrap partiton (number 12) and linux root
on partition no. 13. If I type this in the open firmware

  setenv boot-device hd:12,\\:tbxi return
  shut-downreturn

and restart the computer, a folder with a question mark appears
on the screen, then the question mark changes into a mac os
icon, happy mac appears and mac os starts loading.

I also tried this (I don't know anything about the open
firmware, so I just tried typing combinations of commands that I
a saw in the installation tutorial):

  boot hd:12,\\:tbxi return
  boot

and something like this flashed on the screen:

  loading elf
   finished

and then the mac os started anyway:(.
I have done the exact same thing and had the same thing happening to me. No
commands at Open Firmware seemed to help:-( And noone on this list could help
:-(( when I asked. So I dont have any solution for you.

[newbie] Once again MR8 on PPC Open Firmware

2001-11-13 Thread gunner carstens

I try once again to get an answer as I didn't get any answer the first
time and this problem is bugging me completely to get Mandrake 8.0 up
and booting om my iMac 333, rev b (I think):

Installation seems to have been alright. (Two OS'es MacOS 8.6 and MR8)
But I get no bootprompt on restart. So I open OpenFirmware and are
ready so insert this command:
setenv boot-device hd,6:\\:tbxi
but the keyboard in open firmware is very limited and there are no \\
available??

Suggestions on what to do?

Also, because of a recent change in isp's, the smtp server is with a

  any ideas?
You start Kmail, choose Settings/configuration,choose network in the left
configbar,
and the add in the right side of that window, choose POP3 and then I
get a window
where I can type in name login password host ...

You can choose if you want the password to be remembered ...
Then choose OK, Apply, and OK, and you should be all set .?

[newbie] KMail

2001-08-27 Thread gunner carstens

I have used KMail with no problems for some months now. Suddenly it
makes this problem:

Sending failed: RCPT
a SMTP error occured.
Response: 553, sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts
(#5.7.1)

Return code: 553.

The following transport protocol was used
smtp://mail1.stofanet.dk25

As far as I know, I have made no changes to the configuration.

Can anyone help with this, so I again can send mail in KMail?

This does not quite make sense, as I can send to the same mail adress
from Netscape without problems??

[newbie] Sound suddenly not working

2001-06-27 Thread gunner carstens

My sound was functioning ok when it for one user using enlightenment
dissappeared.
Now it also dissappeared for another user.As root I have installed
gnapster and gotten it to function, playing an mp3 file.
But now it will not play that either.
xmms says: make sure another pgm is not using the soundcard, make sure
that your soundcard is configured correctly, make sure you have used the
correct output.

For root in KDE sound is working.

But not for one user using Enlightenment and another user using Gnome.
Where can I start to look for possible answers?

[newbie] mandrake-update service

2001-06-19 Thread Gunner Carstens

I have tried to do some mandrake update for the first time and have
experienced this (upgrading MR7.2):
1)getting ftp servers goes fine
2)getting list of updates goes fine
3) downloading files goes fine
3) preparing for install goes vvery slow
4) installing freeses everything, takes very long time (6 hrs for 10 update
items - 15 MB of downloaddata) monitor goes completely black, at the end.

5) After reboot everything seems fine and (pehaps) I have been successfully
updated !?

I would just ask if this is normal procedure for mandrake update service to
go like this, or I have to do it otherwise (I do it like the tutorial on the
mandrake.com site.
thanks gunner

Re: [newbie] mandrake-update service

2001-06-19 Thread Gunner Carstens

If everything appears fine afterwards, then you should have nothing to
worry about. If you go to a console screen (press ctrl+alt+F1), you
should see the version number of your Mandrake displayed on the screen.

I did not make myself clear. Whar I wanted to say was that I did security
upDATE, not an upgrade to MR 8.0.

When I try to update my system from the Software Update in DrakConf
This is what happens:
 1)getting ftp servers goes fine
2)getting list of updates goes fine
 3) downloading files goes fine
 3) preparing for install goes vvery slow
 4) installing freeses everything, takes very long time (6 hrs for 10
update items - 15 MB of downloaddata) monitor goes completely black,
 at the end.
 5) After reboot everything seems fine and (pehaps) I have been
 successfully updated !?

I would just ask if this is normal procedure for mandrake upDATE
service to go like this, or I have to do it otherwise (I do it like

[newbie] Intel Pro 100 Netcard half duplex

2001-06-16 Thread Gunner Carstens
Title: Intel Pro 100 Netcard half duplex

I have had many problems connecting my LM7.2 to cablemodem.

Part of the problem may be caused by the speed on the
Intel Pro 100 Netcard. Someone told me that it could be good to force the netcard
to run 10mbit half duplex. Can anyone tell me how I do that?
Thanks

[newbie] RAM full

2001-06-12 Thread Gunner Carstens

I'm using a Mandrake 7.2 on a Pentium 3 with 128MB RAM, on a newly installed
system. I found it a bit slow and quite a bit of the programs - like KDE
mediaplayer - won´t start up. I found out that with NO programs started
from the desktop by me, the RAM is nearly full!

I can see, that I'm running Apache, postgreQql and mySql . My question is,
where do I turn these off from the startup procedure, so I have more RAM to
use as user?

I have installed the developer install, as I want to learn to program and
use XEmacs.
Thanks,
Gunner
