[newbie] Mandrake update

2002-12-06 Thread hgm
When I try to use the Mandrake update I get a list of different servers.
If I then try to connect to one of these, there will be an error message
that this server is not available. this is true for all the listed
servers. The manual update from these servers however works fine. Is
there somebody who had the same problem or can help me?
Thanks.

You are right. Indeed I changed from XFree 3.x to 4.x with 3D
acceleration. On the other hand openoffice seems to be the only programm
which is affected. do yopu know the reason and how to repair it?

I can't see any text in the openoffice toolbar any more. there are just
some underline signs. I really don't know what happened because the
software was running perfect up until now.

Have you changed any settings, or installed some new software that could
have altered something in the X server?
Did you reload the X server, or even reboot?

Thank you very much for your hint. In fact I had just recently installed
a new version of freetype2. Reinstalling the version from the mandrake 9
disk solved the problem
Thanks to all who helped.

[newbie] [Fwd: Internet connection time]

2002-11-03 Thread hgm

---BeginMessage---

In SuSE KDE I was used to monitor the internet connection status with an
icon from kinternet. This was helpfull as I have no flatrate and was
using Dial-on-demand. Is there something equivalent in Mandrake's
distribution. I really want to know, how long I am connected. Can
somebody please help me.

[newbie] CD-Player

2002-11-02 Thread hgm

Can somebody please help me. I just installed Mandrake 9.0 and nearly
everything went ok. But now I detected that I can't hear any sound from
the GNOME CD player. This is true also for Grip, which is by the way
otherwise functioning properly.Sound with any other device like XMMS,
Xine and xawtv is ok.
Regards
HGM
