I'm in sort of a simular spot. I've got a pentium TPad (48M ram, 2 Gig) which
doesn't have a floppy drive (got lost somewhere) but does have an internal
cdrom which isn't bootable. If you can stick your Hd into some other laptop
(I can't) just for the install, you'll be fine. If not, you're in for a spot
of work and/or fun:o)
My option is to install 'zipslack' (or BasicLinux) on dos\win to have a
workable linux for the creation of the ext2 and swap partitions. Used
'fips' under dos (on the mdk-cd: /dosutilities/fips.exe) to resize the win
partition beforehand.
Zipslack can install lilo in the mbr for youthat way the double boot
option is there.
That's as far as I got for the time being.
Now the headaches:
I prepared a seperate small partition to put the mdk or slackware (the latter
being my preference) bootdisk images on.
Alas I haven't been able to get that working yet, fidling with lilo.
apparently floppies and HD'partitions differ too much.
Anybody got any tips on how to emulate a flioppy drive or how tell lilo it's
got load the 'floppy' partition into ram?
Everytime I try to add the 'floppy'partition as unsafe I get the message
that it isn't compatible with tables.
Anybody able to shed a light there?
Or maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree:o(
