[newbie] ADSL Connection

2000-08-16 Thread munsing

Help! I am a new Linux Mandrake user and
Ihave an ADSL modem connected to a Ethernet card on my machine. How do I
connect to the ISP (Singtel Magix) ?

In windows98, I had the RAS Session Manager to make
the connection. How do I do it in Linux

appreciate some good advice...

Thanks!

You need to determine whether your ISP uses
straight TCP/IP or pppoe )PPP-over-ethernet) as the protocol. If so, you need to
obtain pppoe--try searching freshmeat.net.

Hello Greg,
ADSL connection is quite simple actually, providing your provider is
using pppoe you can install rp-pppoe software from cooker distro and
simply edit the /etc/ppp/pppoe.conf file with the pertinnent information
then activate pppoe by the command adsl-start
