Yeah - cdrecord is a utility created under GPL - it's what you DO with
it afterwards...

 

Certainly cdrecord is gpl, but as I heard it the dvd writer update part 
of it is not.

The problem comes when you want to play back the discs.  Not all dvd players 
will play all formats - in fact most won't.  You have to research just what 
you can play on your particular player if you want to use anything other than 
your recording drive.

drive would work under Linux, until CD+R/RW is supported by CDRecord (or an equivalent 
program) it would work only as a very expensive DVD-ROM.

Does anyone know if DVD+RWs are supported under Linux?

I've seen some reasonably priced DVD+RW drives recently but the only drives I 
see listed as being compatible with Linux are DVD-RW drives. Also, DVD-RW 
drives seem to becoming harder to find lately.
