Re: [newbie] LM 7.2 and Xfree and CD-RW

hi, don't know about the first question but as to your Xfree question, with 7.2 (i
have only done the expert mode install -- so i don't know if you can get this option
with other installs) you can use either vesion 3.x.x (don't recall the exact, but i
believe it's the same as 7.1) or version 4.0.1.

1) Currently running LM 7.0, have 7.2 ready to install. Although I keep
reading that my Micro Solutions Backpack (external para port) CD-RW will
function under Linux with paraide installed, has anyone tried it with
success? I have to keep booting back into Windblows to burn stuff.

2) Also, LM 7.0 supports my clunky S540 based video card. Referring to
the Mandrake supported hardware list I don't see this chipset listed.
Xfree 4.0 (I think) doesn't support it either (included with 7.2), yes?
Can I choose to install an older version of Xfree when I upgrade to 7.2?

Do you have scsi-emulation enabled ? Pass the option hdx=ide-scsi to the
kernel at boot (through lilo or grub), where x is the "hd" number (a = first
primary, b = first secondary, c = second primary etc.)

Try "cdrecord -scanbus" to see if the recorder is recognized.
