Anne Anders, I suppose you live in Sweden where most things are like Denmark (maybe except the booze). In Denmark it's not necessary to use PPPoE, we use DHCP instead. I think PPPoE is mostly an American thing. All I had to do was to connect the *splitter* to the phone outlet, then the ADSL-modem to the splitter and, finally, the ethernet card to the ADSL modem. Reboot. Voila. No change of settings. That sounds like the same system we have. Anne -- Registered Linux User No.293302 Want to buy your Pack or Services from MandrakeSoft? Ok, so it seems that humour is lost on the group today, so I shall remain humourless for the duration of the day. I am not feeling all that humourfull after fighting with my new PC, just how to get into the computer to attach my CD-burner and harddrive from the old one nearly got me an heartattack LOL, anywayit is not your fault :o) PPPoE is basically already built into the system, else you can use the PPPoE client from say, Roaring Penguin (RPM based so no thinking required) - I personally would try to stay within the actual parameters of the operating system - I tend to stick with what's already built into the networking before finding an alternative, but everyone likes their tea a different way! RE: [newbie] PPPoE-client for Linux
with pppoe, DON'T use the Mandrake tool, it makes to many assumptions about your network settings.. in my case a good many of those assumptions were incorrect... install rp-pppoe, then open an console and type: adsl-setup answer the questions and thats it.. you are all set. rgds Frank -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]]On Behalf Of Anne Wilson Sent: Friday, 31 January 2003 6:29 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: [newbie] PPPoE-client for Linux On Thursday 30 Jan 2003 10:17 pm, Anders Lind wrote: PPPoE is basically already built into the system, else you can use the PPPoE client from say, Roaring Penguin (RPM based so no thinking required) - I personally would try to stay within the actual parameters of the operating system - I tend to stick with what's already built into the networking before finding an alternative, but everyone likes their tea a different way!
