Re: [newbie] Powerdown problem(problem restated)

2002-03-22 Thread Robin Ballantine

It could be something to do with the default kernel and your hardware.
You could try recompiling the kernel from the 2.4.18 source and checking the
power management settings under the general settings tab. It's a lot of
hassel I know, but its well worth compiling a kernel to suit your particular
hardware and setup. If all goes well you should end up with a kernel that is
smaller, faster, more stable and possibly even more secure. I've had problems
like that in the past with some of the kernels and thats where I solved them.

 Hi,
I'm using Mandrake Linux 8.2, and yes I have USB. I can find no other

this mailing list work. It's the same every time:

Linux starts shutting down as it should, then it comes to a graphical
   screen where it says
Shutting down, please wait (or the like)
   ...
   Sending kill signals...
   ...
   Powerdown.

And that's were nothing more happens and I have to pull the plug. :-(

[newbie] Powerdown problem

2002-03-21 Thread Jesper Nyholm Jensen

Hi,
When I execute the command halt linux starts shutting everything down, but
in the end it just stops and freezes and doesn't turn off my pc. This is a
problem for me because I can't turn off my PC at the touch of a button, I
have to pull the plug.
