RE: [newbie] RE: [Toshiba CDROM XM6102B

2000-11-18 Thread Ran Hooper

Hello,
I am trying to install Mandrake 7.2 in an old Pentium 200 MMX with a
Toshiba
CDROM XM6102B, but the installer doesn't recognized this CDROM model; it
gives me question about if it is an IDE or SCSI CDROM, and doesn't
recognized it as IDE, but it seems that there is not any special module for
this old CDROM.

On my box I observed the following behavior:
If the cd LED was solid while booting, MD 7.1 would never see the CDROM
during install. If I popped the tray after it went solid but before the IDE
detection it worked fine everytime. It still happens occasionally after
install on boot, if I simply pop it out then I can mount cd's just fine. Not
sure what causes it, hope this helps.

Regards,

Ran Hooper

One option is to copy the contents of the CD onto your windows partition and
then boot an install floppy, hit F1 for options and do linux all which will
allow you to choose your installation medium of choice which in your case is a
local FAT (windows) HDD partition
