Correct. Denmark joined in 1973 after a very marginal "yes" 
referendum.  And we still keep our distance from much of the EU 
rigmarole like military, police, monetary and environmental 
matters.  I don't know how Sweden fares, but last I looked they 
still have their own currency.  The brightest of the Nordic states 
however is Norway and Iceland, who are still free countries.

Luckily, the EU is about to self-destruct.
