Sam's Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours is a very good source of information.

[newbie] Samba Perl

1999-11-16 Thread martin

Hi,

This may be more of a question for the expert list, but i'll try here
first.

I have got samba up and running from the Mandrake CD no problem so my
PC can be seen by my laptop's Win98 network neighbourhood.

At work i am working on some web pages that use perl scripts to
manipulate files on the server (basically a remote control of a
production environment). I would like to continue developing these
pages using my home setup (ie an apache server). I can get the perl
scripts to execute with (relatively) little effort - (don't ask me why
apache doesn't recognise the the '#!' directive at the start of the
script until the files have been manually copied to a new file line by
line).

My question is that the perl scripts use UNC naming conventions to
access the files ie '\\ntaonline1\prodin\*". Not surprisingly when run
on a linux box they fail (presumably the linux box doesn't understand
UNC names). Can samba help me with this ? If so how - if at all - can
it be integrated into apache so that the perl scripts can return the
correct results ?

I have checked out the samba documentation, but can only find info on
using the smbclient tool interactively (which incidentaly works well).
Lot's of questions, can anyone help with any answers ??

Thanks in advance,
Martin.
