As long as the directory where you installed the libraries is one of the
directories listed in /etc/ld.so.conf, running ldconfig should make the
libraries available. If not you can add it.

Double check the file /etc/ld.so.conf - and if it meets your
requirements, then run /sbin/ldconfig to rebuild the cache...

I am sorry, i was only trained for sendmail.

No one has told me anything about "postfix"

what if you don't happen to be using Sendmail as your MTA? Postfix doesn't

Re: [newbie] Silly question concerning SPAM

2002-01-17 Thread Meowth

In the file, /etc/mail/access, I enter either the:
return address, or if its not a real one,
then the ip address from whence it was
sent, or the domain name of the server
that it last came from, then as action
to be taken, I choose to enter a line
as such in /etc/mail/access :

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ERROR:"550 Please stop spamming me"

This bounces the dumb old poopy spam back
to where it came from and the spammer
then thinks, "Oh dangbusta poopybottom,
that is not even a real address." and
more than likely takes it off the list,
but either way, you never see the dirty rotten
yucky spam ever again.

O yes don't forget to type

service sendmail restart

in a text terminal as the root user
so the new setting will take effect.

I personally use junkfilter, however there are many many programs for this.
I believe that almost all use procmail as the transporter of mail. You can
edit there spam filters to do almost whatever you want. You can divert all
filtered messages as SPAM to /dev/null (deleting them), however I have them
just sent to a folder where I check now any then to see if any personal
e-mails have gotten diverted wrongly.

Seacht www.freshmeat.net for "SPAM filter", and it should tun up about 1000
proggies.

I tried this too, however I do have my negative thoughts about this. Yes it
does filter VERY well, giving a clean page, however loading of these clean
pages takes about 1,5 times longer ~ Sometimes more. :-( Another thing is
that, being the free version, it only allows you about 15 connections. If
you are surfing drastically, and there are pages which do not hang (not
fulling loading), these get counted as connections, and now and then I get
the annoying screen saying something like "you have already reached your
maximum number of connections... blaah blaah blaah"

Re: [newbie] Silly question - I don't know how to use man

2000-06-30 Thread Eduardo M. A. M. Mendes

Hello
Thanks all for the suggestions regarding getting man to work.
Here is what I tried:
a) Re-installation of man softaware - It didn't work.
b) Copy of somebody else's man.config  to /etc/man.config. - It didn
work.
c) Use man as man -M /usr/man - it worked.

The funniest thing about it is I don't know why man won't work.

root@armagedon:/etc$ man -d
Reading config file /etc/man.config
found man directory /usr/man
found man directory /usr/local/man
found man directory /usr/X11R6/man
found man directory /usr/lib/perl5/man
found manpath map /bin --> /usr/man
found manpath map /sbin --> /usr/man
found manpath map /usr/bin --> /usr/man
found manpath map /usr/sbin --> /usr/man
found manpath map /usr/local/bin --> /usr/local/man
found manpath map /usr/X11R6/bin --> /usr/X11R6/man
found manpath map /usr/bin/X11 --> /usr/X11R6/man
found manpath map /usr/bin/mh --> /usr/man

it sounds good, doesn't it?

Unfortunately it doesn't,

root@armagedon:/etc$ man -w
/usr/local/qt/man

Man is stuck with qt somehow.

Any suggestions?

Thanks  a lot.

Ed,

At the time I first asnwered your message I was sitting at my Workstation
at work. I hate to admit it, but it's not a Linux workstation. At this
momemt I'm sitting at my PC at home. So, I pop open a terminal window and
type in the command man procmail and guess what pops up? Yes, you
guessed it. The man page for procmail.

What version of Linux Mandrake are you running? Not that I really think
it's going to matter cause I get the feeling that it would still be in
there if the program is on your system. I think that is the important
part. Making sure it's installed on your system. You can know for sure by
issuing the command whereis procmail that will tell you where it is
if it exists on your system.

Just type "man procmail".

Ed,

Open a terminal window and type: man procmail

That will open the man page for procmail is a "vi" editor window and you

[newbie] Silly question - I don't know how to use man

2000-06-28 Thread mendes

Hello
I know that this is a rather silly question but I definitely need help.
For instance, I installed procmail on my system. The manuals were placed at
/usr/man/man1 and /usr/man/man5 as *.1.gz or *1.bz2 and *.5.gz or *.5.bz2.
When I type man procmail the sys returns no manual page for it. What am I
missing here?

Thanks a lot.

[newbie] silly question about winmodems/ WINE

2000-04-05 Thread DCA

I'm pretty much resigned to the fact that my winmodem isnt going to work
under linux, however with WINE (or similer) which runs windows apps under
linux is it possilbe to run a windows email client and get online that way?

also to run windows apps in general, does any of windows need to be
installed?

am I totaly missing the point here? (my linux/win box is at home and im
mailing this form work - but the idea just came to me)

[newbie] silly question: mandrake 6.0 and Y2K?

1999-12-20 Thread Alan Schussman

I found the 6.1-Y2K page at the mandrake web site, which indicates that
Helios is tested compliant. It occurred to me, "what about 6.0?" There are
(I assume) plenty of us running 6.0, and while I understand linux is
generally free from Y2K problems, are there any issues with Venus I should
know?
